brown eyes dreaming
The Feelies are playing at Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ Did anyone go last night? Is anyone going tonight (July 2)? Good read:http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/01/arts/mus...amp;oref=slogin
Oil Can Boyd
I wish.I saw them at Maxwell's a long time ago and it was tremendous. And don't forget the show on Friday opening for Sonic Youth.
bböp
I went last night and am headed there again tonight. It was my first time seeing them, of course, since I was about 12 when they last played. And while I can't say I had a nostalgic love affair with them like many of the other people (dudes, mostly) there last night, they were pretty damn great to see live. The quote in the NY Times piece about their old manager wondering if they'd explode on stage was very apt. And maybe it's just the tiny size of the room (or the fact that I was standing directly in front of the stack at stage left), but they were loud! I spotted Craig Finn of the Hold Steady almost as soon as I walked in the door and I thought it was cool that Ira Kaplan of Yo La Tengo was among the hardcore fans, some of whom had flown in from Japan and Italy, toward the front. At least for a while. I'm sure there were other indie rock "luminaries" there as well.

bböp
How long was the show? I read that it will be 2 sets. Mostly old stuff or any new songs played? They did play two sets. Went on about 9:20 p.m. and finished the first set at about 10:05. Then took about a half-hour break before coming back for the second set, plus two encores. They did play a couple of new songs, which sounded really good. As you could see from the tape, the second set featured a lot of covers (which was fine by me). "She Said She Said," which they actually recorded, I believe, sounded great, as did "Barstool Blues."
bböp
In addition to the covers they did the first night, they also played "Paint It Black" (which they obviously covered on the Crazy Rhythms record) and an instrumental by, I think they said, Jonathan Richman (though I definitely could be wrong about that). I'm sure I'm leaving something else out, another Velvets cover maybe. Anyway, I personally enjoyed the version of Patti Smith's "Dancing Barefoot" that they reprised from Night 1. In terms of Feelies material, they played similar (although not identical) sets to the first night -- ending the first set with "Crazy Rhythms" and the second with "Fa Ci La." Really liked hearing the new songs when I wasn't right up against the stack. Wish I could remember song titles. Looking forward to seeing them (and Sonic Youth) tomorrow... brown eyes dreaming
Last night's show was great! I forgot how much I like The Feelies. I hope something will be posted to NYC Taper - would love to download last night's show. As bbop mentioned, Dancing Barefoot was played again last night. I thought Brenda really nailed this song They played some of my favorites - The High Road, It's Only Life, Higher Ground, Deep Fascination, Too Much I thought Glenn's voice was really good - didn't know what to expect. Seemed that his mic was turned down for the first 3 or 4 songs, but then the levels were raised. This show has left me wanting more - but, I think I might have to wait a while (hopefully, not 17 years).
bböp
It was probably Jonathan Richman's Egyptian Reggae, which they often play. Yeah, that's kind of what I thought it might be, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for the clarification.
