anthony
I have really been digging this song lately. IMHO it might be the quintessential Wilco song (especially the 'Noise' KT version). A quick search did not prodcue a complete tab/chord/lyric of this tune, so I thought I'd put it all together. I have called it Capo III, but I think it sounds fine at II or IV, as well (my ears kinda prefer II, but JT seems to use III; hence that is what I'll show here). As always, corrections, comments, feedback, flames are welcome. Enjoy! Kalle
I've always heard and seen Jeff play this Capo II.

mfwahl
There's a picking pattern too. Most importantly, let off the b string as to make it a Cmaj7 before you go to G. Also over F it's a simple arpeggio which is easy to play by ear, normal fingering (fingering)
anthony
I've always heard and seen Jeff play this Capo II. It certaininly SOUNDS better at II. But the youtube link show JT w/ capo III, no? There's a picking pattern too. Most importantly, let off the b string as to make it a Cmaj7 before you go to G. Also over F it's a simple arpeggio which is easy to play by ear, normal fingering (fingering) Agreed. The Cmaj7 is a good call - nice touch. I noted to travis pick over the F, but arpeggio is fine too, I guess. Thanks for the feedback.
mfwahl
It certaininly SOUNDS better at II. But the youtube link show JT w/ capo III, no?It's II on the album and live with Wilco. But you are right that solo he plays it higher III, maybe even IV sometimes. He does that solo with a few songs maybe so he doesn't have to change the capo and, also, his ear and voice are already accustomed to that key?Agreed. The Cmaj7 is a good call - nice touch. I noted to travis pick over the F, but arpeggio is fine too, I guess. Thanks for the feedback. This brings up a question I've had for a while. Is there a specific Travis picking pattern or is it more or less alternating bass in the thumb with different notes picked on top, usually with varying syncopated patterns? I've seen different things referred to as Travis picking. Usually I alternate the bass and mess around with the rest until I find something that fits the song's tempo and feel. For this song, part of the signature sound, for me at least, is during the F, at the end of each measure there is a descending arpeggio in the picking pattern:b-1----- g---2--- d-----3- That's not the picking pattern but those notes seem to be accented

TP is kinda a vague term. I tend to think of it is 4 distinct patterns: --------------- -----1--------- -----------0--- --------2------ --3------------ --------------- -------------- -----------1-- -----0-------- --------2----- --3----------- -------------- ------------------------- --1-------------1-------- ----------0-----------0-- -------2-----------2----- --3---------------------- -------------3---------- -------------------------- --1-----------1----------- -------0------------0----- ----------2------------2-- --3----------------------- -----------------3-------- My fingers kinda do these automatically w/o me thinking about it.
