lizish
Hello VC music nerds. Those hip indie dudes at CBC Radio 3 are running another 'Best of' contest. Except this time I've got a bit of skin in the game as the contest is for the best concert venue in Canada and the place I'm doing some booking/volunteering has made the second round. Aeolian Hall is a century old building that will forever totter on the brink of insolvency. It is also the best venue in the country. That may sound like hyperbole, but I've been to most of the places nominated and the Horseshoe, the Blacksheep, Trin-St. Pauls, The Dakota and La Salla Rosa don't hold a candle to it. "Great Lake Swimmers' third record, "Ongiara", was largely recorded in the Aeolian Hall, the centuries-old acoustic jewel in the heart of London, Ontario. The Aeolian was fantastic and even exceeded our expectations. - Tony Dekker" (If Tony Dekker, who turns his amps up to 0.000001 and can hear a pin drop in concert thinks it has great acoustics, well it has great acoustics) Bad part is that you have to register at CBC Radio 3 to vote. And, you can only vote once a day. I wouldn't worry about the small matter of not listening to CBC R3, having no idea what the Aeolian Hall is or not ever stepping over the St.Lawrence, Niagara, or Detroit rivers. register: http://www.radio3.cbc.ca and then vote here:http://radio3.cbc.ca/polls?pollId=29 http://www.aeolianhall.ca/ More info: Pardon our silly grins but... The Aeolian has been nominated as "Canada's Best Live Music Club" in CBC Radio 3's Searchlight competition. Over 100 music venues from across Canada are competing for this designation. The winner will be determined from online voting - open to anyone who registers on the site. (that's where YOU come in! See below!) In addition to serious bragging rights, the top club will win a live concert presented by CBC Radio 3, a Sirius satellite radio with subscription, CBC Radio 3 clothes for the owners and staff (coveted R3 scarves included) and a winning plaque and trophy. Here is how it works:
lizish
Massive Bump. The Aeolian has made the top 50, with polls open to Feb 10th for the second last round. If you could register, if you have not before here: http://www.radio3.cbc.ca and then vote here: http://radio3.cbc.ca/polls/?pollId=
lizish
Need the help one last time. The Aeolian made it to the top 20 and I need you to vote for the top 10. http://radio3.cbc.ca/polls/?pollId=32 Ok, maybe I'll need your help one more time after that. Here's to all the vacant storefronts, brothels and crack houses surrounding the place that must have played big in getting it to where it is now. And it is really strange that the only Toronto venue to make it was Hugh's Room. I guess the Folkies aren't too hip to vote.
lizish
Hi. Me again. THE HALL HAS MADE THE TOP 10! I need you (yes, even you jaded indie types) to vote for the Aeolian Hall. Jill Barber is coming up this Sunday and we had the best show I've ever seen with The Amazing Kreskin(!) last week. Heis so much better than Yuri Geller. http://radio3.cbc.ca/polls/?pollId=
