nathanb
There are few certainties for me in contemporary music, save for the fact that Wilco are my favorite band. I first knew about them around the time of
bböp
The Wiltern is GA, so if you want to get close, just get there early.
nathanb
I'm aware that the Wiltern is GA. For some reason though, I'm still paranoid. If I got the kind of seats I got at the Greek, will I even get tickets for the Wiltern? Also, aren't there two different GA sections? If so, does just getting there early allow you access to the front. Has anyone here done the presale, particularly for a small venue like the Wiltern. Thanks again for your help, Nathan
gogo
There are two sections at the Wiltern, but if I recall from the last time Wilco played there, it's first-come first-served to get into the front section. Once you're in there, you get a bracelet, so you can go for drinks, to the bathroom, whatever, and still get down to the front. Pre-sales generally only have about 10% of the available tickets, so if you don't get tickets at the pre-sale, you've still got a good chance at the regular sale, and getting there early will definitely get you a good spot. Good luck!
nathanb
Thanks Gogo, I appreciate the info on the Wiltern. I saw them there on the AGIB tour and got to the front of the second section (i.e. not on the floor, in front of the stage), and I just wasn't sure/couldn't remember how that all worked. Granted, that was the best view I've ever had of the band at a show (the last to dates have been at the Greek). And thanks for the information on pre-sale %, another mystery to me. ih8music
I'm in the same boat as you, nathan, trying to ensure I a.) get tickets and then b.) hopefully show up early enough to get a good spot. They're also playing at the Fox Theater in Pomona on Sat the 20th... similar-sized venue, also GA I believe. It's an option for me since it's about as close to (or should I say far away from) where I work/live as the Wiltern. Never been to a concert at either one - anyone with an opinion/preference for one over the other? My guess is that tickets for the Sat night show in Pomona will go quicker than the Mon/Tues night shows in LA... but who knows. Both will probably go quickly. EDIT: just noticed that the Pomona show is already on pre-sale so I grabbed mine! now I guess the decision is whether I want to go to one of the LA dates, as well... nathanb
I like the Wiltern, thought it's been a while since I've seen a show there. Like I said, I saw Wilco there a while back. I can't speak at all for the Pomona venue however. I'd never heard of it. Nathan
nobodygrrl
I like the Wiltern. If you like having the option to sit (as I am wont to do at times), they have a nice loge and mezzanine. If you get there early enough, you can snag a front or second row seat and have a great view of the stage. The bar up there is never crowded and you don't have to worry about pushing your way back into the crowd. Also, the last few times that I've been to the Wiltern, they haven't let people upstairs if they have a "pit" wristband. The good thing, though, is that the pit wristbands go to fans in line, not just corporate guests. My understanding is that the Pomona venue is a recently remodeled theater on the other side of the freeway from the colleges. It looks nice. The only downside is that it's in Pomona. I saw Ryan Adams in Claremont and the house was maybe 1/3 full (nice, intimate show), but both UCLA shows and the San Diego show were sold out. Could be a nice chance to see the band without having to deal with people who hold their noses when they have to go east of The Grove.
