remphish1
Yeah, safety is stupid. I would think the blown out windows are more dangerous than replacing them. If it was so dangerous they should be forced to remove all the windows on the building and replcae them. If you had an antique car lets say and the bumper fell off and you now had to replace it with a bumper made in 2009 that doesn't go with the look of the car wouldn't you be upset? I work day to day with municipalities in real estate and the red tape and logic of some of these boards are a little nutty.
caliber66
Looks to me like there are windows, and what is missing is the outer cladding. There's no reason to believe that not having an outer window is safer than having one the building department has determined is not safe enough to be used - say, for example, it has a tendency to blow off the building when the wind gets up a bit. edit: having a period bumper on your antique car isn't the same as using unsafe building materials. sureshot
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090416/ap_on_...s_redevelopment I can't believe how ridiculous this is! Here we are 8 years later and nothing has been done. Yeah the real estate market sucks now. But what about the previous 7 years? Nothing has been doneQ Why don't they build now and by the time they are finished the market may be better? I figure once they start building it will take a 3-5 years to complete. So now they are not going to build because the economy is uncertian??? I think we need this to help restore NYC and show its strength of the people! Also didn't the WTC's owners get billions in insurance money that I am sure will help them rebuild, where did it all go!? I remember in 2001-2002ish they said they are going to rebuild to show the terrorist we are resiliant and it should be up and runnning in 2008. Hello it is 2009 and nothing has been done. If anything they should have built a more substantial memorial to honor all the people lost on this day...sorry for the rant. Reminds me of the custerfu*ck that is Block 37 here in Chicago (aka the single most cursed piece of real estate in the country) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/108_North_State_Street

Well it was built in 1972. If this was the first instance of them being blown off I would say it is a pretty safe window. I again don't know the full history of the building but do know building departments don't usually act with the most common sense. My example was just to note that replacing the blown out windows with the same ones they originally had would keep up with the looks of the building. The example of the bumper was just to show that the new bumper on the car would be inconsistent with the desired look. Also I think the example I gave is more relevant than you may think. If your bumper fell of and now the motor vehicals say it is not safe and you can no longer drive around with the original bumpers on because it is not safe that would be pretty rediculous to force you to replcae it with a newly manufactured part for saftey.
