twigboyjoe
I've seen others do this here before so thought I'd give it a go meself one last time Anyone fancy themselves as a reviewer? Or just fancy airing their thoughts on our album? It's streaming & up for free download at http://www.billyvincent.co.uk/thesongbook.htm, and we did a limited run of hard copies. We've still got a few promos that I'd be happy to dish out to folk for your troubles as well. I hope you like it, but more pertinently just look forward to hearing your thoughts... Ta! Moss
I'll take a listen when I get home as well. There has been some great stuff I Have heard from people on this board. Makes me feel inferior as a "musician".
PopTodd
These are just some general comments regarding the overall sound/feel of the album, based upon one and ONLY one listen:First off, the songwriting is, overall, very solid; good melodies and performances. There is a very solidly grounded Americana feel here that is made a bit more interesting by your British accent. It doesn't really fit, but in a good way. My favorite song -- the one that stuck with me the most -- is "On the Five String". A really good hook. And, throughout the entire listen, it's sounds like you're having fun with that one. If you want my one (again, kneejerk) critique, it's that there's a little bit of samey-ness of mood; too much of an even keel throughout. It may be a personal preference, but I like to hear it mixed up. (Some have accused me of being too schitzophrenic in my music, so take my opinion within that context.) Nonetheless, as I stated earlier, there is lots of solid songwriting here and great performances throughout. And I am confident that there will be more that grabs me upon further listening. I'm looking forward to settling in with this collection many more times. I'll try to check in with future opinion as it grows and morphs. Thanks for letting me check this out. Degenerex
Haven't had time to give the whole album a listen, but "On The Five String" is standing out to me as well. Good stuff.
twigboyjoe
Thanks guys! Five String seems to have been picked up on by a few people actually, nice to see some consistent thoughts Fireworks too seems to get a few ears pricked.. Todd, thanks for your critique. Glad you like it at least, and hope it'll grow a bit more Next session will be a more plugged in affair too and a bit more varied we hope, due prob Feb time so when you put em together it'll hopefully work Must point out too, not my singing I'm afraid. I predominantly play bass though me fingerprints are on there in the way of harmonica, mandolin & banjo too. Hope others are enjoying, do lettuce know your thoughts, good, bad & constructive, should the urge take you. PS - Todd, hard copy will be in the post this weekend! Thanks bro~And please know that the criticism that I leveled at your tunes was only because, well... you asked for it!Seriously, I do like the tunes and I think that they will grow on me even more. I just know that, as a musician myself, I'd rather have an honest critique than a dishonest butt kissing. Thanks for sending it out. Looking forward to digging in even more! lamradio
Really dig this. It's refreshing to hear some good mellow music, when I've been listening to nothing but loud stuff lately. My band is working on a new record, and we're trying to incorporate some mellow stuff because most of our songs are all very loud. Solid song writing, great vocals and harmonies, nice work my friend.
