Doug C
Is there anything better than Wilco/Tweedy covering John Wesley Harding? We are sitting by the fire with the dogs and cat listening to shuffle and enjoying life. JWH comes up 3 times in an hour. Once Jeff solo, another Jeff solo, then Jeff solo but joined by everyone sans Nels. What fortune it is to be touched by the hand of the Shuffle God. The first time we are both, 'yeah!' and smile at one another and mildly chair dance. The next time we are both all, 'No way! Woohoo!'. The smiles grow in length and intensity and the arms and asses move a little more. The 3rd time I say, "Shit, it's the Vic one where they call Nels at the end. That's the best one!" The happy, happy, joy, joy reaches a new level. The cover is so joyful. It always changes my mood. It makes a positive valence high arousal emotion even more so and makes a negative valence low arousal emotion swing to the other ends of the continuum. How I love it. Thanks, Shuffle God. Any love for this amazing cover? Please Shuffle God don't let anyone post a link to an earlier thread about John Wesley Harding. Fuck, Now it's destined. I'm an idiot. Guest Black Witcher
That's a lot of words about nothing. Some big words too. John Wesley Harding is a fine song.I can't imagine getting that worked up over a cover.
barbkm
I praise the Shuffle Gods when they select all my numerous versions of california Stars -- Wilco and Tweedy versions. Yes, it is a cover, but yes hearing Mr. tweedy sing, "Dream a dream of you," with sweet yearning does warm my heart (much needed in the frigid North -- Northern New Jersey, that is). I get your JWH love and think that ti is worthy of many words about a lovely feeling.

I had a fine night last night, regardless.

Guest Black Witcher
I like that song -- only one version though, Calvin theater, Nov. 05 -- Tweedy solo show. That version is far superior to the one by Dylan.Nice comment.
froggie
i love the march 2005 version where Jeff plays harp solo note-for-note
LouieB
There are two versions I like... The one Jeff sang at the first Near North Montessori show which I requested and the other in the sound check at the theater in Madison Wisc one rainy day when a couple of us snuck in and heard it on the sly. That one sounded JUST like Dylan. Not seeing him sing it, I swore it was a tape. LouieB
