Sonny
Jeff Tweedy is mentioned twice and Wilco once (so far, half through) in the new novel, "Freedom," by Jonathan Franzen. Leading up to the mentions, the characterization of the musician and his band in the book made me think the author was probably familiar with Wilco. Good book, too. smells like flowers
There was also a Wilco reference in "Her Fearful Symmetry" by Audrey Niffeneger. She a Chicagoan, I think.
shesintheway
Just finished "Freedom" myself and was pleasantly surprised with the Tweedy/Wilco references. Jeff is mentioned as one of the music "worthies" (along with Michael Stipe) endorsing a fictional band in the book (Walnut Surprise, which I thought was a damn funny name). Two of the main characters also attend a Bright Eyes show at the 9:30 Club in D.C. and other real musicians of that ilk are mentioned. These are certainly not he main topics of a really good book, but interesting details.
a-me-with-a-you
Okay, so everyone is reading this book? So many blog entries about it and now here, it'd disturb the natural order if I didn't pick it up at some point.
LouieB
I got it on audible and started it a few months ago and haven't listened since. It is fun enough. LouieB
