Autumn Defense @ the Troubadour, 2-5-11

Recommended Posts

Saw this show and the previous night's (Pappy & Harriet's, in Pioneertown, CA, 2-4-11) this week, and can't say enough about what a wonderful time we had. This band just gets better and better, and hearing the gorgeous purity of John's and Pat's voices, alone or together, is a treasure. :yes

They have such a solid band behind them, and it's very clear how much everyone onstage is enjoying themselves, and it all comes together so beautifully, startlingly perfect. Some of the songs were so breathtaking that I found myself literally holding my breath, just swept up in the moment. Hot damn.

But as I mentioned in the companion thread to this one, about the previous night's show way out in the desert at Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown, I have had a bronchitis relapse that demands that I get myself into bed soon. All that rowdy rock and rolling is hard on cough-driven lungs! I should perhaps have refrained from roaring along with "You Can't Have Me" both nights, but I apparently have little restraint so I sang happily along both nights and then coughed most of the rides home. A small price to pay for such euphoria, though! :lol

I'm going to put myself to bed now, but rest assured, both wonderful nights were recorded. Both came out great and Brennan (the taper & my son) will share them on bt.etree once he's done working on them. I'll put up setlists for these 2 nights and a couple photos when I'm feeling less lousy, promise. :thumbup

One fun surprise...Jonathan Wilson opened both nights...solo at Pappy & Harriet's, full-band at the Troubadour. Great sets both nights. Midway through his Troubadour set he brought out a friend, "A great songwriter"...Jackson Browne! They proceeded to tear through a terrific version of Warren Zevon's "Lawyers, Guns and Money", after which Jackson melted into the crowd and hung out to take in the AD's set.

Very, very, very cool.
