The Hip-Hop/Rap Thread

Recommended Posts

Not a huge listener to hip-hop or rap, but I do listen to it a bit. Love a lot of the old-school stuff. And, yeah, the Kanye West record is also great.

But recently, my kids have me listening to some of the newer artists. And, while a lot of it is crap, I have been listening to and loving these albums:

The Nicki Manaj, in particular is flooring me. I just love the way that she sounds; she gets into this voice every now and then that is genuinely scary. But in a really freaking cool, sexy kinda way.

The B.O.B. record is surprisingly hooky, some some really great melodies and actual compositions on there. This one was the biggest surprise for me.

Anyone else listen to much in this genre? What are you listening to?

I listen to a fair bit of Hip-Hop. 'The Roots' are as good as anyone out there at the moment, and have been for a good while. A great group. Still listening to Mos Def/Talib Kweli/Common and those guys. 'Train of Thought', the album Kweli did with Hi-Tek is an all time classic, in any genre. I still listen to artists like 'Tricky' for something a bit darker. His last album I really enjoyed.

Gonna need to be more specific here.

Well, all of them. But I was referring to the new one.
