Wilco — 3/7/12, Zurich, Switzerland (Volkshaus)

Recommended Posts

Quite a lively show tonight at the Volkshaus, a place that the band have played a couple of times previously. Jeff mentioned on several occasions that it was "nice to be back." And even though he only said a couple of other noteworthy things, like pointing out someone he noticed who seemed to put their earplugs in whenever he picked up a guitar and pointing out Glenn's Swiss-themed wristbands before goading him into standing on his drum stool before I'm The Man Who Loves You, the crowd pretty much seemed totally into it from the start.

I clocked the show at 2 hours and 9 minutes, which I think made it probably the longest of the tour thus far even with One Sunday Morning getting played. I didn't get a look at the printed setlist tonight, but some reliable sources told me that they cut Monday from the encore (hopefully no one feels cheated that I mentioned that). Not sure if there were any other changes off the printed list.

But anyway, a fun show all around. Jeff had a couple of minor lyric flubs, but no one seemed to mind — or even notice. The crowd, as previously mentioned, was spirited and the band seeemed to feed off the energy quite a bit. After Candyfloss, a guy near the front yelled out, "You make me so happy!" and Jeff sort of chuckled and said, "Good...that's what we're here to do." :lol

I'd definitely recommend getting to a show at the Volkshaus if you can. It's a nice venue — general admission floor with reserved seats in the balcony — and really nice-sounding as well. The only slightly weird thing was when we first got in, they still had the orchestra pit open and the area right in front of the stage was completely roped off. For a few minutes it seemed like they were going to play the show that way, which would have been really weird. But before too long, they brought the floor in front of the stage up, if that makes sense, and from then on it was smooth sailing... :thumbup
