ripthisjoint908
http://www.youtube.com/user/BehindTheSounds/videos?view=0&shelf_id=1&sort=dd There is a YouTube channel with 10 videos, all very informative in regards to the recording and arranging of Pet Sounds. Lots of audio footage of Brian talking and explaining things to the session musicians. Great pictures and alternate takes of songs.
dvigs24
Those videos were pretty great. Whether you like the album or not, it's pretty amazing how Brian Wilson had THAT bouncing around in his head, and that he was able to communicate his vision so clearly and produce exactly what he wanted. Definitely worth a watch - thanks for sharing!
bigideas
I was just thinking about this the other day.I got Pet Sounds somewhere around 2000.Around that time there were also a lot of groups making albums or songs with Pet Sounds-esque touchesWilco - SummerteethFlaming Lips - The Soft BulletinREM - At My Most BeautifulStarflyer 59 - Leave Here a Strangeretc. Were there any artists in the 70's or 80's chasing that sound?I think the late 90's is when the Pet Sounds box set came out, so maybe that inspired a lot of people at that time?I just don't think I've ever heard something from the 70's or 80's and thought, "Man, they were definitely listening to Pet Sounds."
