LouieB
There is an amazing article in the NY Times Magazine this week about Elvie Thomas and Geeshie Wiley, two very obscure femaie blues singers who only recorded a handful of records in 1930 They are amazing records and this story is remarkable. I recommend the online version of the article because it includes information not found in the print edition. But even if this type of music does not interest you, the obsession of the topic is interesting. And also in an era where we know too much about musicians and every show is recorded, this is a revelation. Lots to discuss here I think. Can I make a link here? I am having trouble figuring out how to do the hyperlink so here is the long form. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/04/13/magazine/blues.html?action=click&module=Search®ion=searchResults&mabReward=csesort%3Aw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fquery.nytimes.com%2Fsearch%2Fsitesearch%2F%3Faction%3Dclick%26region%3DMasthead%26pgtype%3DHomepage%26module%3DSearchSubmit%26contentCollection%3DHomepage%26t%3Dqry312%23%2FWiley&_r=0 If one of the opps can fix this for me I would appreciate it. Mr. Heartbreak
I didn't read the entire article, but having glanced through it and read sections of it, I have to say the author's level of obsession is possibly the most remarkable thing in there. Kind of borders on Proustian. I guess that is what makes the world go round, different strokes for different folks!
Oil Can Boyd
I only read the print edition but it was a fantastic article. Maybe I'll check out the online version tonight ...
