CCRGMac
Does anyone know about the instruments Jeff plays on Sukierae? There's a very distinctive acoustic bass on some tracks (Flowering and Summer Moon are great examples) that I'm kinda obsessed with. Is it an acoustic bass guitar or a stand up bass in a high register (a la Peter Hook)? If it's guitar, anyone know about brands or models? Cheers, Colin
linclink
You could possibly inquire (posting on their wall, or sending them a private message) with the good folks over at The Loft...For they are the great grand guardians of all gear related stuff involving Wilco...https://www.facebook.com/TheLoftRecordingStudio?fref=ts

lost highway
I think he did electric bass only, but through a smaller guitar amp which gave it so much presence and so little lows. Kind of the anti-Stirratt. I noticed on songs like Hazel it's super nasal.
CCRGMac
Yeah, Hazel came on in the car this morning and that's exactly the sound I'm referring to. I posted on the Loft FB page as linclink suggested, they responded that they should post more gear info but didn't have the actual answer.
Atticus
I think he did electric bass only, but through a smaller guitar amp which gave it so much presence and so little lows. Kind of the anti-Stirratt. I noticed on songs like Hazel it's super nasal. Spot on. A hollow body bass through a combo bass or guitar amp could really get that thumping tone. The bass work on that album, like all the instrumentation, is perfect.
