Jeff Tweedy Chicago Vic questions about venue

Recommended Posts

Long time Wilco and Jeff Tweedy fan, new to these forums...

I will be going to the Saturday show at the Vic for Jeff's benefit concert and am super pumped. I have seen Wilco and Jeff solo multiple times previously but this will be my first time at this venue and I had a couple of questions I hope you all could answer.

From what I understand, this is a general admission show. We have golden circle tickets, given that fact how early should we get in line? I would like to be close but we won't be getting downtown until late afternoon and would like to get drinks with friends before the show. Are acoustics and sight lines pretty good throughout or should I taget a specific area?

Also we are arranging drinks after the show and were wondering how long he usually plays until for this specific show. I checked out previous playlists so I have an idea but wondered if any veterans can give me some insight.

I apologize if this has been asked and answered. I'm trying not to be a noob and did my research but couldn't find much info.

I am most excited for the deep cuts and more intimate setting that I hear this concert provides.

Thanks!

Welcome....

It's a great little venue.  Bar in the back, btw :)

The gold circle seats are the first 5(?) rows in the front, with folding chairs that are packed in pretty tight.

Behind that, there's a rail, then a couple of tiers with seats going back to the bar.  Balcony up top that goes up pretty steep.

Those seats in the gold circle are obviously great seats.  If you get there at doors (7:00), you should be able to get a nice seat near the center.  Any of those 5 rows is a great seat (stage is high enough such that any of those are good).  You probably won't get there early enough to request a song (the crazies usually get there by 3 I think... no offense, of course).

The only thing I'd recommend is to avoid the "wings" (far outside seats, outside the outer aisles) in those first 5 rows.  They're a bit off-to-the-side and angled.  I only had to take those seats once, when we showed up at around 7:50, after a rousing NCAA tournament game where Kentucky whupped up on arch-rival Louisville.... Tweedy + UK win over UL.... almost a best night ever!!

Set length is a good 2 1/2 hours I think.  Lots of banter, which is the best part of these shows, but some of the songs are shorter in the acoustic arrangement.  30 songs, maybe a couple extra.  No opener iirc.

Enjoy!! They're wonderful shows....

Agree with everything theashtraysays said. Just one more thing: Come prepared to participate. Sometimes it takes the crowd a while to stop being quiet and reverential. Jeff is pretty adept at letting us know he enjoys a singalong. That doesn't mean calling out requests, because the setlist will have already been decided for the night by the first 30 people in line (the crazies!) but it always seems like Jeff gets into it when the crowd joins in the choruses. It's a night to let your Wilco freak flag fly.

Also, there will probably be special t-shirts and posters for the shows, so plan for that.
