Jeff Tweedy — 31 August 2018, near Tollard Royal (Salisbury) UK (Larmer Tree Gardens) [End Of The Road Festival; Day 2 of 4]

Recommended Posts

Taking advantage of extremely limited Wi-Fi out here to post this setlist from last night. Don’t necessarily have too much to report, but Jeff quipped that this “is my kind of festival — it’s cold, it’s damp and it’s dark,” which is certainly true at night here. Otherwise, the weather has been lovely and it’s been a pretty nice festival so far. One of the trademark peacocks that reside on these grounds just visited me, literally as I am typing this.)

Jeff played for just over his allotted time of 75 minutes, headlining the Garden Stage from 9:45-11 p.m. Can’t say it was a flawless performance, but what’s the fun in that? There were some folks in the crowd yelling requests (Cars Can’t Escape, most notably) and otherwise trying to get Jeff to engage. Mostly he stayed clear of the fray, commenting that “I have a bad reputation in this country,” but not wanting to go too far down that road lest he sound too much like our current president or something...

Also, Jeff apparently played an unannounced mini-set (~five songs) earlier in the day on one of the festival’s small pop-up stages. I overheard someone who caught it that he among the songs he played were Let’s Go Rain, IATTBYH and I’m The Man Who Loves You, but obviously I can’t confirm or deny.

Anyway, here was the complete setlist as played for Jeff’s regularly scheduled set:

Via Chicago (w/harmonica)

I Am Trying To Break Your Heart

New Wave Theater

New Madrid

Impossible Germany

Ta. Sat and Sun were lovely days - was about 40 miles due south at the seaside.

P.S. When you say a peacock 'visited' you, is that a euphemism? Hope it brings good luck ...

Glad you were able to enjoy the sea for the weekend! And when I mentioned the peacock visit, I'm afraid I was being quite literal (in my state of fragile Wi-Finess). I was sitting in a spot where I could get a signal and looked up and a peacock ambled up and past me and then hopped up onto a fence and, after debating the relative safety below, jumped again to the other side.
