all around great experience. I traveled from Richmond and it was definitely worth it. Between Roanoke and Norfolk, this show was just light years better. I think Wilco is just at this point better in seated theater type venues than standing room only venues which seem to encourage heavier drinking, talking and general "revelry." I don't think I could have predicted how good the crowd would be. I came down to see Jason Isbell in the same venue in November and the entire crowd sat for all but the last few minutes. I had pit tickets for that show and my wife & I got asked to sit down so many times we left the pit to go stand back on the side so we could could enjoy it. I had prepared my crew for the same thing but as soon as the EKG recording hit the entire crowd stood and kept standing, cheering for the entire show. There was one crazy off beat clapper and aggressive "woo hoo"er that was loud during the encore but otherwise a solid showing form a place that's more used to getting state fair and country acts.
My crew taped the show and the torrent is here: http://bt.etree.org/details.php?id=585049

that is indeed one option
other options: for streaming purposes, winamp will play/stream flac files
Nero also will read flacs as wav files and burn them straight to cd
otherwise, google "flac frontend" once you have it, drag and drop the flac files into the window and hit decode to convert them into standard 16 bit wav files
there are also several programs which will covert the flac files straight to mp3 if you just want them for an ipod, etc... google "flac > mp3 conversion"

got the Cvill one last night. it looks even better in person that the jpgs I had seen on-line. My only question/criticism would be the significant similarity thematically & stylistically to the Halloween Phish posters from AC
-
yowza! really?
what a freak.
i was wondering what the guy beside her was doing while she did this, and while people around her got mad.
what an idiot.
i'm glad they left for most of the show.
some people just have no clue.
where in the venue did that happen? some otehr folks mentioned it to us afterward but you can't hear any of it on our recording.
-
WOW 3 Tupelo songs in 1 show..Figures as it was the show I was not at..You guys are lucky and I am jealous!
On a side note Tarrytown NY gets 17 songs VA gets 23? Wonder what was different between the 2?
Jeff loves Charlottesville is the best explanation
His last show at the Paramount was nice & long and the 2 Wilco shows at the Pavilion are 2 of the longest I have seen. The crowd was most respectful, and very into the show. A good crowd more often than not will get rewarded!
-
charlottesville got taped by 2 folks. we recorded from the 5th row and I'm working on that right now. Have to leave for work so will try to get up tonite. 2nd taper ran from the balcony
I have taped on average 75+ shows a year for over 10 years and probably taped Wilco/Jeff 20+ times. for what its worth, my advice to anyone wanting to tape wilco/jeff, is not to call the venue. I don't see any benefit to it. 99% of these people have no fucking clue what taping is, many of the ones in the venue are volunteers, etc.... I mean go ask 10 strangers off the street about taping and none of them think that shit is legal, lol. Instead I would print out a copy of the band's policy from the website and have that with you. If you get any hassle for your gear, firmly -- but politely -- explain to the venue staff that the band permits it and that you have the official policy to show them. If that doesn't work, ask for their supervisor and keep asking until you get someone who can call shots. have that person call back for Stan, the "front of house engineer," and he will definitely go to bat for you and explain to them that you can bring in your gear. If the venue is adamant about no stands being allowed -- as happens in *some* sit down theaters -- you may have to hand hold, clamp a short extension pole to your seat or wear a hat as we did last night. I would ask them to contact Stan as the last resort though after you have politely explained the policy and tried all your available "jedi mind tricks." A few years back when wilco played the Myrtle Beach House of Blues it took over 30 minutes to get it resolved, which brings up the next point. You need to get there way early if you're going to tape. Stan obviously can't take the time to help you if he's at the board waiting for the band to come on
-
yep got 2 in the Pit.
and that my friends is the difference ebtween Front Gate and the ticketing that the Paramount/Starr Hill Presents offer
-
Got my two for Charlottesville. Orchestra center. Row F. Initially it said none available, but I tried again and it worked. $8.50 for shipping is ridiculous, but whatever.
congrats. You're the only person I know who got them. Those are excellent seats. I was supposed to be seeing Aretha Franklin there tonight from 2 rows up and she canceled for the second time
-
how is that even possible?????
Looks like a few family members, couple of front gate employees and some inevitable scalpers were the only ones to get any tickets

Actually, the Spiders you heard at Richmond was pretty close to the original version of the song, which was first played live in 2001 and featured prominently in Wilco's sets in 2002. It was the first song played at my first Wilco concert, 10/14/02 at the 9:30 club. Check out http://wilcoarchive.com/wilco%2020020427/ for what is pretty widely considered one of the best recorded instances of the original version, from 04/27/02.
I'm so glad they brought it back in the original form. I liked the Krautrock version but never as much as the original organic sound.
My personal favorite version of the original arrangement is 9/2/02 Bumbershoot, Seattle:
1. Spiders (Kidsmoke)
2. I Am Trying To Break Your Heart
3. War On War
4. Kamera
5. Sunken Treasure
6. A Shot In The Arm
7. How To Fight Loneliness
8. Heavy Metal Drummer
9. I'm The Man Who Loves You
10. Jesus, Etc. Jesus, Etc.
11. I'm Always In Love
12. Red-Eyed And Blue
13. I Got You (At The End Of The Century)
14. Less Than You Think
15. California Stars
16. Misunderstood
17. Far, Far Away
18. Hesitating Beauty
19. I'm A Wheel
20. Outta Mind (Outta Sight)
There was a great warm sbd that circulated back in the day. personally not a fan of those "wolf remaster" versions but you can get the shn copy at owl & bear:

You may not remember me, but we met a few years back at a rainy opening of a Harley Davidson dealership with DBT playing under a tent...
I remember we were talking about Wilco shows back then...
I also saw the exchange you were having with security and the Nationals management while I was standing in the will call line, about being to bring your gear inside...excellent work out of you.. At first it looked like there was no way they were going to allow you to bring it in..but i was amazed how you stood your ground and convinced them that you and your gear would be totally out of the way. Thank god you were there to tape it.
well I'd have to see you or your name to know if I remembered YOU but I do remember that Drive-By Truckers show at the Harley dealership. They played an afternoon set there & then a night show at Alley Katz. We had a blast.
Funny you caught my exchange with Bill Reid. He fronts the ownership group for the Norva in Norfolk & the National and as long as I've been taping he's been giving tapers shit, although it usually gets worked out. When the National first opened we worked out with him where the taping spot would be etc... and as I was walking by to get in the will call line I just as a stroke of luck happened to at that moment heard him tell the doorman no stands could be brought in which in a GA standing show essentially rules out taping. Its not the 1st time we have had a similar exchange and it usually ends the same way...with me calmly persisting, him ultimately relenting but telling me to make sure all the tapers follow the rules and threatening to personally throw me out of the show if anyone goes beyond what we agreed to
-
who is an avid taper, not just of wilco but all kinds of bands...his exact words were.....best show i have ever ssen in this room!! and he's seen plenty.
who is your friend? I have seen & taped probably 40 shows in the National since it opened and it was without a doubt the best sound I have ever heard in there with Spoon from last week, the Decemberists and Trey Anastasio Band being next.
-
great show. for over 10 years I have wanted wilco to really open up & extend their shows but I never actually thought I would see a 3 hour wilco show.... that wait is now over! the problem is now I'm so spoiled I don't care if I ever see wilco tour with another opener. Make it all "evening with" shows!

venue staff made us move the stand at the last minute
so we had to run it really low at the front of the sbd.
Two dudes talked & made weak attempts to yell funny
stuff during most of the show. I edited and leveled
it out as much of it as I could.
-
isadorah: yea I taped. should have it up tonight. However, the venue made us move the mic stand to right in front of the soundboard at a pretty low height and the recording has a couple of yahoos celebrating some dude's birthday yelling crap in a bunch of places. I'm gonna try to edit some of it out but it will stil be there.
as otehr mentioned wolf trap sells season subscriptions so there are almost always prime lower center seats that are eitehr empty or filled with bored middle aged folks.
I thought the sound was kind of meh. I moved around from the lawn, at the soundboard and left hand side in front of the stack. Stan did a great job but I have never heard what I consider "great" sound at wolf trap. too many obstacles being a wood shed that also has a balcony etc...
Conor Oberst? man, his set left me wondering what all the hype was about. would have preferred no opener or else an earlier start
$25 for date specific show posters is a good price in my opinion. Phish, Widespread and other "jammier" bands charge 35-50 for signed/numbered original artwork

also the poster was phenomenal. It was a deep rich burgundy red background with a cardinal (state bird of Va) on a snowy limb. It sold out. In fact I got the "demo" model hanging on the rack.
