  1. I've got tickets for my wife, son and I to see the Wilco/Sleater Kinney show in Atlanta in August.  I've been expecting it to be postponed again, but after yesterday's festival announcement for August, I'm starting to get really excited that it may happen.

It'll be my 11 year old's first Wilco show and we've got great 10th row seats.  He's listened to both of Jeff's audiobooks, and countless episodes of the Tweedy Show during the pandemic, so I think he's going to really love it.

I'm fully vaxxed, too, and that's the only firm tickets I'm holding onto but I'm itching for a show and am hoping to see something before then.

So are we all remembering to cancel our Bandsintown Plus accounts before our free week is over? It isn't much...$10/mo....but I really don't need another subscription to pay on. What do the rest of you think?

I set a calendar reminder to cancel in a few weeks.  I feel like they deserve $9.99 for the Tweedy show and I'm hopeful they have at least one more show I want to watch in the next month, but I'm definitely not thinking it's worth sticking with the service.

  3. Did they give you an explanation?

Yes, the venue manager Tom goes over every order and flags and cancels anything suspicious on sold out shows..  Apparently because my Ticketmaster address was in Georgia, I was assumed to be a re-seller.  I'm in a Wilco FB group and so many people with addresses outside of TN had their orders canceled.  FYI, I had to re-purchase my seats as will call only.  Plus it'll be 7-10 days before I'm refunded for the first (canceled) pair of tickets.

  4. Last row in the balcony, but I'm in the building for Knoxville.

I just got an email from Ticketmaster saying my tickets were canceled at the request of the Bijou Theater.  There was a name and number to call at the Bijou Theater for more info and I've called and left a voicemail but I'm assuming I'm screwed as this point.

  5. I don't know about a website.  Hell, the venue they're playing is some place nobody has ever heard of or knows anything about.  So the whole thing is a little mysterious.

Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, right?  I have nothing to add other than I work right by there and have been watching them build it.  Buddy of mine has tickets to see Taj Majal there soon and I'm looking forward to getting the lowdown.  Hoping they get more shows of this caliber because it'll be great to go straight from work in the suburbs to a good show vs having to fight the traffic to get downtown.

  6. I thought it was an amazing show and I'm so glad everybody stood.  I was in the 1st row for Isbell a few months back at the Fox and was forced by security to sit, so everyone immediately standing was a nice relief for us.  Banter corner included Jeff calling out a "rich guy" sitting in the front row constantly on his "four phones making drug deals" while his wife stood and enjoyed the show.  "If you see something, say something, and this guy on his four phones has to be making drug deals."

Band was incredibly tight and I thought the set list was pretty much perfect.  I hadn't seen Wilco since the two Tabernacle shows in February 2016 and was just blown away in constant awe all night.

I posted a few pics here, including the printed setlist.

  7. My wife and I just locked in a babysitter for this show.  There are mediocre seats still available from the Fox, but I figured it was worth a shot to see if any VC'ers had extras they needed to get rid of first.

  8. I listened to this all weekend and really love it.  Not quite as amazing as Southeastern or the first half of Here We Rest, but as good or better than Something More Than Free, which I consider his second best full album.  It's also not quite the big rock record some folks are talking it up to be, but I assumed as much, honestly.

Standouts to me are If We Were Vampires, Anxiety and Chaos & Clothes.

  9. When my wife and I first started dating, probably around 2001 or 2002, we went to see Evan Dando play a solo set at the Earl here in Atlanta with a couple of our friends.  We're right up front, practically standing at his feet, and during the first few songs it kind of feels like he's checking my wife out.  My buddy mentions it to me and starts busting my balls a little, joking about how I'm going home alone etc. About half way through the show, he asks her if she'd come on stage and help him out.  He wants to play a new song and needs her to hold the lyrics for him.  Before playing the song, he introduces himself to her and chats with her a little.  The song ends, he thanks her and she hops back down to stand beside me, just beaming with excitement.  I mean it's Evan Dando, so I don't blame her or anything.  The show continues and he talks to her from the stage multiple times, referring to her by name, asking for requests etc.  By this time, I'm super uncomfortable and thinking I may actually be going home alone.  My buddy's still talking shit to me the whole time and busting my balls. Finally, the show ends, he says "Thank you, goodnight" and steps right off the stage and kinda blocks me out with his back as he takes her hand and starts chatting her up, eventually leading her to the bar.

Thankfully, she pretty quickly led him back to our group, introduced him to me and he soon lost interest and took off.  She still jokingly wonders if she made the right choice.

  10. On an almost completely unrelated note on my vinyl copy of the new Band of Horses, "Country Teen" has no vocals....straight instrumental. Google yields no results to my inquiries....guess I won the prize.

FYI, on my digital copy of that the vocals are only on the right side.  May be that you're not properly hearing both channels?

  11. Such an amazing two nights at the Tabernacle.  I couldn't really pick a favorite as both nights each had so many amazing aspects.  Pretty happy to have experienced my 19th and 20th Wilco shows on my home turf.  Overall, I thought the crowd was pretty great both nights.  There were a few annoying drunks here and there, but luckily they all appeared to be big Wilco fans and were mostly dancing and woo'ing as opposed to chatting, at least up front where we were.

Here's the printed setlist, the Space Oddity lyrics and one of Pat's picks we scored.  As has been pointed out, It's Just That Simple was skipped and Space Oddity was tagged onto the end.
