  1. Does anyone know when Wilco's performance on Colbert will actually be taped? I have audience tickets to the 2/4 show, but there are two shows taping that day, one at 3:30 and one at 6:45. My tickets are for 3:30, and I wanted to see if I was going to get to see Wilco perform. Thanks.

I imagine the 3:30 show is airing Thursday, and the 6:45 show is airing Friday, so you're in luck since Wilco is on Thursday.

  2. I've got an interview in NYC this week and my flight is supposed to be tuesday night...but I doubt thats going to happen now. Somehow I think they're going to be sympathetic to me if i explain I couldn't make it because of the weather. Hope everyone currently out there stays safe, I'm glad all the states seem to be taking it very seriously.

  3. The sound was pretty lackluster in my neck of the woods for the first part of the show, and it seemed like someone was fiddling with levels for a good chunk of time, but having not seen the boys in a couple years, I had a blast, especially since we were allowed to bring in our own food/drinks. I would have loved a smaller venue, but it was a grand night.

    I counted 33 nothings.

  4. We played Egyptian Rat Fuck a lot when I lived in New Hampshire with young hippie freaks. Great game.

I think The Man toned this down by the time I started playing it because it went by Egyptian Rat Screw in my day.

  5. In a blunder that will haunt me for the rest of my days, I was walking around London last week and passed by the theater where (unbeknownst to me) they were showing a sneak peak of the first episode of the new series with a Q&A session afterwords with cast and crew, only a few hours later. If only I had a Tardis to go back in time....

I did make it out to the all Dr. Who shop, and although its less impressive than I'd have liked, I did get some cool shirts/posters.

  6. The 3 big differences between 4 and the 4S are:

-speed - 4S has a faster processor and a better antenna so most things should be zippier. But its not like the 4 is slow.

-camera- The 4S's camera is way better, so if you plan on using the phone as a camera replacement, don't get the 4. (Both are crappy in low light so aren't ideal for concerts)

-Siri - With the 4S, you can talk to the phone and get answers, directions, etc without typing anything in. May be sort of gimmicky.

So if any of those are super important to you, go for the 4S.

iPhones, Windows Phones, and Androids are all good options at the moment. All have plusses and minuses, but they all get the job done.

  7. From wikipedia, emphasis mine:

Public radio is a generic term for non-commercial radio stations or programming that are covered under the Public Broadcasting Act. Public radio organizations receive funding from corporate sponsors, public (e.g. Corporation for Public Broadcasting) and private foundation grants as well as donations and gifts from individuals. The mix of revenue differs by station, network and/or producer. PRI, NPR and American Public Media are the largest providers of public radio programming in the United States. They compete with each other for slots on public radio stations and the attention of listeners. Each has distinct missions and emphases in programming—PRI is focused on global journalism, providing diverse voices, and arts and cultural perspectives. Any given public radio station may be simultaneously both an NPR member and an affiliate of PRI and APM. PRI is a not-for-profit organization that has an independent governing board with an independent board of directors. NPR is a membership organization; its board is composed of public radio stations which run for seats on the board.

I had no idea about this until last month. I follow This American Life on twitter and they made a comment about how they weren't an NPR show and I researched more.

  8. Whose show is it? (It originates from WBEZ in Chicago.)

Yeah, its a WBEZ show distributed by PRI, who is an NPR rival. I was mostly kidding since it doesn't make a difference, but technically NPR has nothing to do with it. They do, however, distribute WBEZ's second best show Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me so I'll forgive them.
