  1. Hi everyone!

As you may have heard, there is a low quality leak of our new album, High Violet, spreading across the Internet as we speak. We wanted to let you know the New York Times - http://www.nytimes.com - will be streaming the real thing starting Friday April 23rd. We hope you'll take the time to hear the album at its intended level of quality.

High Violet will be released by 4AD worldwide on May 10th/11th.

If the copy going around right now really is low quality, I'll happily wait until Friday.

  2. In case you don't have Easter plans tonight and want to catch a screening of I am Trying to Break Your Heart, they are showing it for free at 7:00PM tonight:

What better way to spend the end of your weekend than hanging out and watching some rock and roll cinema at the Empty Bottle? A free rock movie and cheap drinks sounds like a pretty swell way to spend a Sunday evening, so come on down for I Am Trying to Break Your Heart. Photographer turned director SAM JONES started filming WILCO as they recorded their fourth album, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. A tumultuous time for the band during which they nearly broke up, the documentary captures both WILCO's music and the story of how the band weathered through the storm to release the album under a new label.

  3. I enjoyed that. Obviously, I miss David, but Mr. Smith did quite well. For an introduction episode, it was great. I like when they throw in a little time travel into the show about time travel. '

The last shot of the episode added a real nice twist to the companion, though I was sort of expecting it when she asked how soon she could get back.

  4. Anyone know what the hell Sean Penn was talking about during his Best Actress intro when he said “actors don’t win this two years in a row”...?

apparently he didn't thank his wife last year and was saying that he and the academy both forget to acknowledge deserving women...or something.

  5. I thought Martin and Baldwin were great

Clooney was just playing a bit

I thought this was one of the better Oscar shows, all in all.

I'm sure your impression had nothing to do with Avatar (deservedly) being locked out of the big awards. ;-)

  6. I think its a mistake to debate about whether climate change exists and whether humans are causing it. I think those of us who believe it's real and human's are causing it should not worry about convincing other people. I think if you boil down the position to "Pollution is bad, it harms the environment, and we need to do much less of it" then there is not much to argue with. If we get caught up in arguing over whether we need to look at the weather over 10 years or 100 years or just the temperature today, it sort of skirts the main point: We need to pollute less, period.

  7. Yeah, and just to reiterate - I'm an Apple fanboy going out of my way to try and convince MYSELF why the device is awesome, so we should be taking anything I say with many grains of salt. I think everything you've said so far have been very valid concerns and stuff that makes me not feed as bad for not rushing out to get it.

It would be interesting if it ended up being a niche product for hospitals and universities - the kindle is definitely better for reading normal books, but for a textbook with charts, pictures and graphics I would imagine an iPad would be the way to go. Especially if you can just be reading the text, click on a word, and a video explaining the concept pops up. Add to that some cool 3rd party collaborative learning software for teachers, and I won't be surprised when some hoighty toighty private school orders an iPad for every student.

  8. Which is why they included as accessories a case that can prop it up, a docking stand, and a dock with a keyboard?

Exactly. If Apple thought that it was essential to use these things with the iPad, it would have included them. They are however, accessories that in some situations enhance the way you want to use it. But they aren't part of the core design of how the device is meant to work. There are multiple pictures of people sitting with the device in their lap watching video on it and if you're on a flight you can set it on the fold out meal tray thing. When I'm reading a book on a flight, I usually set the book on the tray and tilt my head down. It seems to work fine.
