I saw the Great Lake Swimmers open for Centro-matic once. Good band. I really like thier most recent album.
-
Actually, I believe that was The Kingpin, named by Nels.
Yep, you are right, but Tweedy also joked that it was a new one right before he started playing it.
-
Kingpin was dedicated to Detholtz, the openers. What an honor! I actually kind of liked them, especially because they were honest about just hyping Wilco the whole time...nice work.
Kingpin was not dedicated to Detholtz....the song dedicated to them was actually Late Greats. Kingpin was announced as a "new song".
Great show...but the crowd energy was not quite as good as I thought it would be.
There was also some funny banter about "how's your foot?" (Carry over from Milwaukee).

11/30 My Morning Jacket....Roseland Ballroom
12/1-12/2 Dinosaur Jr....Rebel
12/5 Ryan Adams.....Town Hall
If you into art at all, the Museum of Modern Art is newly renovated and awesome.
I had no idea Ryan was playing in NYC.... Thanks for the tip...just got tix to the 12/4 show. Wish he would update his website more...I would have bought tix when they went on sale..... Anyway I'm really excited to see Ryan when I'm out there!
Any additional suggestions would be great.

I'm going to NYC and hope to check out some vintage guitar shops when I'm out there...Does anyone have any suggestions for a few good ones to hit up?
-
I'll be in NYC on vacation from 11/28-12/5. Does anyone have any suggestions for stuff to do (i.e. shows to see, bars/restaurants to go to, sights to see)?
We really don't have a travel plan and are just planning to wing it. Let me know what you think.

how did that sell out so fast?
The Barrymore is a pretty small venue for Wilco thses days. I'm not suprised that it sold out that fast. Did you try to call any of the other places that sell tix for the Barrymore (i.e. Exclusive Co, B-Side Records, Star Liquor).

Tickets went on presale for Ryan this morning at 10am, but i'm sure there is tickets still available. i got mine. it was like 90 some bucks for two tickets. It's a charity event for the Chicago Cubs too, which fuckin' rocks because i'm a diehard fan. 4 hour trip to chi-town for me. i need to find a motel.
Tickets go on sale here on 11/11:

If you sign up for the free membership you can buy them now i think. not sure on that though. someone said it over on the ryan adams archives website. that is the new message board pretty much.

I really loved that new song "There's a light". It was pretty simple and nothing remarkably original but I still absolutely loved it.
The song is actually called 'What Light'. Tweedy played it after my request....but, I'm guessing he was planning to play it anyway.
I noticed that he switched up the lyrics from the last version that I listened to. Now the chorus is something like..."There's a light, what light. There's a light, that light. There's a light, white light, inside of you."
What Light makes me smile

I'll be there.

Smokestack Joe, Here is my 2 cents.
As far as Tremelo Pedals.....I really like the Demeter TRM-1 Tremulator and Fulltone Supa-Tremelo. But you might be better off getting a Fender Reissue amp.....all of the Tremelo peldals are just trying to sound like the old Frender vibe setting.
Delay.....I use a Maxon OD-9. If I had a ton of cash, I would buy a Fulltone Tube Tape Echo or Moog MF-104 MoogerFooger Analog Delay.
Compressor....I use an old Ross compressor...but I have heard good things about Maxon's CP-101 Compressor
Gain/Overdrive...nothing like a good ole' TS9. I use two TS9s modified with Analogman's Silver Mod. They are pricey but, they sound great! Nate from del mar plays a Tele and uses a Keeley Electronics Java Boost to spice up his tone. It gives him a Ryan Adams Cold Roses Sound. A combo of the Java boost and TS9 mod would be money.
If you are not doing anything tonight (9/22), you should come down to Linneman's in Mil-Town....del mar is playing and we'll be playing a ton of roots music.....I know you used to see us years ago in Whitewater.

So.....Has anyone ever listened to the band Helen Stellar? If so, what do you think?
I'm pretty sure that they are based out of LA now, but my band played with them once when they were living in Madison, WI. I recently dug out some of thier old EPs and started listening to them again. They are really good. I'm suprised that they are not more popular than they are.
For those of you not familiar. Helen Stellar has kind of a spacey "shoe gazer" vibe. Not sure what they are up to these days.....But they should put out a new album! Maybe even come back to Madison to record at Smart Studios again!
Check out the link to thier MySpace page below. They have some pretty good tunes posted on it.
