  1. Saw the show in Ottawa last night. It was amazing, like watching a lightning storm from a plane amazing. If you can make it, go. Too long song finishes be damned. If you get to see Billy Talbot audible a song to Neil, who then reacts immediately and heads to his pedals instead of receiving the guitar his tech is delivering to him, and that song turns out to be Cortez the Killer which is then played with as much energy and passion as i've ever seen put into a song by anyone (followed by a punk Mr. Soul and chest vibrating Hey Hey!), well that is a once in a lifetime musical moment during a show by one of the most legendary, solid and worthy bands of rock and roll. I witnessed that and it was so fun to see after listening to these guys for 30yrs.

  2. You hit the nail on the head djp0910 (I feel so futuristic calling you that). This was my 14th show over 9yrs and I can say that this was the most "rock concert" I've ever seen them. The show was beautiful, the audience/venue were into it and a complete pleasure and the setlist was a perfect outdoor, Summer show bunch of songs. In fact, I'd say the band was pitching a perfect game, until a slight Airline to Heaven vocal flub, but that was due to fan interference. Watch the replay, the fans up front are clapping out of time and it blew Tweedy's concentration. Actually, the fans in back were out of time too, but I don't think he can hear them.

Great show in Cooperstown. They hit hometown Rochester, NY this Friday at another gorgeous venue, the Highland Bowl in Highland Park, a Fredrick Law Olmstead park, for all you park design fans out there. Across the street is the sight of a former home of Fredrick Douglass, for all you history buffs out there, who happens to be buried down the street in Mt. Hope Cemetary. He used to hang with Susan B. Anthony downtown, btw.

    Shows #14-15

Abbreviated run down....once at Massey Hall on this tour, "evening with" tour in Scranton, opening for Neil at MSG, a glorious hometown show here in Rochester (first time played), Ryman Aud on Sky Blue Sky tour, Radio City, the two Chicago Aud shows closing out YHF tour (where Nels played as a guest on Handshake Drugs about 10ft. in front of me). I recall the 5 others sprinkled throughout and I actually do have individual memories of each. Always a great show.

  4. I've enjoyed White Denim 2 of the 3 times I've seen them now! Sunday night in SF they went a little nuts with an extended jam, which is totally not my thing (although several people I talked to said they liked that night the best, so I guess it's all just a personal preference thing). But in San Jose and Oakland they played some cool songs, bouncy and guitary and almost funky at times.

Thanks for the review. They have an instrumental on their latest album that segue's from the previous track and I wonder if that's what they played. Maybe you're already familiar, but if not, they are "Burnished" and "At the Farm", respectively. Anyways, I've been curious about their live shows. Thanks for replying gogo and enjoy the Wilco out there on the West Coast.

  5. This is probably too obvious of a thing to say, but Impossible Germany always reminded me of Marquee Moon.

    I've always thought the same.

While we're on the subject, check out the similarity between the Replacements' cover of Rock Around The Clock from their Stink re-issue to Dreamer In My Dreams. Made me wonder if Tweedy & Co. had heard that cover before.

I'm going to listen for that today, Alex Etc.

  6. The best of all time was seeing you in the audience on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last year or whenever. You are like VC's Zelig.

I saw that, very funny. I yelled at my wife "There's bbop! He's everywhere!" Including Ashes...(if you haven't already spotted him).

Thumbs up to you bbop. I am indeed someone who regularly awaits your setlist/review. Hope to see you in Rochester....NY!...soon.

  7. Thats Nates, the guy I collaborated with. He does a lot of creature mash up illustrations. You may recognize me from recent Wilco posters such as Atlanta 2010, Scranton 2010 and Richmond 2010....haha catch the Simpsons ref there?

Scranton was the only show I caught this year and I came home with one of your posters. It was a nice one, good job. I really like the Tweedy solo posters too, btw. Very cool.

  8. What about her?? White people like her too.

She's great and, yes, I know. I'm one of them.

I simply wrote her name in (unquoted) reply to the vibe that was coming from this thread when I was reading it that Wilco, and/or Tweedy, do not appeal or relate to diverse enough crowd.
