  1. Alright, that may have been a bit of an exaggeration, as I've been drinking and was just listening to a live version of Ashes with Nels, but yeah, I think at this point, I personally enjoy what Nels has brought to the band more than what Jay brought to the band.

  2. --30 years old

--First introduced to Wilco in early '97, when I read a positive review of Being There one day in a local rag, and then came across it by happenstance later that same week (maybe even the same day--I don't remember. It makes for a better story if it was the same day, though). I picked it up because of the good review, and because it was two discs and a lot of music for cheap. A minute or two into "Misunderstood," I knew I had found my new favorite band (replacing another Chicago band in the Smashing Pumpkins). I played the hell out of the album for the rest of the year (and, to this date, it's one of only a handful of CDs I've ever had to replace due to wear and tear from listening to them so much)

--They played here in OKC in November '97, which I only found out about a day or two beforehand. I invited a girlfriend, who invited a friend along, and I bought her tickets ($12 each). There was only a few dozen other people at the show. The girlfriend and her friend were so bored and unimpressed that I gave her my keys and they left. There were a couple of guys I was sitting/standing next to that went on and on about the differences between Wilco and Uncle Tupelo, who I didn't know a fucking thing about, besides the fact that UT had a song on the No Alternative compilation. After the show, I was walking around the venue, waiting for the girlfriend to come back and pick me up, and very nearly crashed into a very-pissed off-looking, jean-jacket-wearing Jeff, who was in a hurry to get somewhere.

--Didn't see them again until they played Dallas five years later, and bought all their stuff in between the shows. Have seen them three other times since then, for a grand total of five times: Twice in OKC, twice in Dallas, and once in Tulsa. Five times is nothing compared to how many times other people around the boards have seen 'em, but I figure, for as infrequently as they play this part of the country, five times isn't too bad.

--Still my favorite band, nine years later, and can't ever envision a time when they won't be.

  3. How often do they do these fan choice figure? I honestly don't know. I know the past fan choices were pretty poor choices.I actually think that the fan choice should be off the beaten path characters, but cool ones.

This is the sixth official one. They started doing them in 2000, so they've averaged one poll a year. Here's a handy little guide on the previous Fan's Choice polls, if you'd like to know more.

If you haven't checked out KOTOR or Jedi Tales - they kick the original trilogies ass.

I did check out KOTOR, and got about halfway through it until I realized that it was boring me to tears. Even tried to get into it a couple more times, with similar results. Just ain't my thing. Neither is the Exhausted Universe in general, though, for that matter.

But the KOTOR series is pretty highly-regarded as far as SW games go--which really isn't that big of an accomplishment, given that most of the SW games in the last few years have been utter garbage.

  4. Couldn't find the old thread about the fan choice voting and such. I know there was a big debate about it among the nerds around here especially those in the pro-ice cream man camp (suckers).

    (snip)

Now for my nerdy moment in the sun: Fuck the ice cream man or whatever he is. Eat it all of you who voted for him too! I may not be getting laid tonight or tomorrow night or for the forseeable future for that matter, but the guys I voted for won. Woot-Woot! :w00t

I love me some Darth Revan and KOTOR. Awesome game and series!

    :ermm

I'll eat my shit politely, I guess.

Sure, he may have lost, but I'm still proud of Ice Cream Maker Guy. Nobody had any idea he even existed until my online buddy Scott founded that goofy website and petition, and several years later, he's one of the top-25 most wanted figures out there. For a total grassroots effort, that's pretty impressive, considering the amount of characters out there to choose from--most of whom have had a great deal more exposure than ol' Willrow could ever imagine. And I don't think we'll ever know the official results of the poll, but I bet that Willy had a nice turnout--who knows? Maybe even a good enough turnout to make Hasbro take notice.

The ICMG is dead; long live the ICMG.

Thanks to everyone here who voted for him.

  5. The link isn't working for me. I'm disapointed.

    :hmm

We're sorry for the inconvenience, but YouSendIt is temporarily unavailable. Please try again in a few minutes.

YSI was acting a bit spotty for me earlier today, right as I finished uploading. Hopefully, they'll be back up shortly.

  6. I spent like two hours uploading this today for a couple of people, and figured--why let the other ninety-odd available downloads just go to waste?

I believe it's kosher to put this up here. If not, my apologies. Let me know, and I'll delete it.

They're all VBR MP3s, in one big .rar file.

  7. hmm...it would make sense.

Oh, not really--but that was their finale the last time I saw 'em (Tulsa last year), and everybody's already guessed everything they've been closing with lately.

  8. I wonder why he just does not call it The Axl Rose Band.

That's how I've been referring to it for the last few years now. I refuse to call the current lineup of jokers "Guns N' Roses." It's disrespectful to the old lineup of jokers.

Axl's very protective of the name, to which he owns the rights. I think there was even some litigation several years ago between he and the old guys where he tried (successfully) to get them to give up their rights to the name to him.
