  1. Albert Belle got robbed in 1995 of the AL MVP award, he had 50 homers, 50 doubles, .317 average, .401 OBP, and a 1091 OPS and he didnt win the MVP? It was one of the biggest pooch screws ever when it comes to MVP, I dont know maybe if he had better character and disposition he would have won? who knows

Absolutely zero chance the sportswriters would give an MVP to Al Belle, even if he did have a stellar season. He also helped to lead the Indians (who made their first postseason appearance since 1954, not counting "Major League") to the World Series. Vaughn only had 165 hits in '95. If Belle wasn't such a dickhead, he would have been a shoe-in.

One thing that surprises me is that Juan Gonzalez won two MVPs with the Rangers ('96 & '98) and he wasn't that loveable a character either. It's wild that all those dudes were juicin', and lookin' back it was obvious, and no one intervened. Look at Sosa...he was a scrawny kid when he came up with the White Sox and he turned into a beast.

  2. The Yanks have made an offer to Sabathia....6 years/$140M. They are likely to make offers to Lowe AND Burnett. They also are likely to try to land Jake Peavy through a trade.

That said, are they trying to have the first 10 man rotation in baseball? Are they going after Lincecum, Webb, Cliff Lee, Roy Hallady and Cole Hamels too. Cuz if so...that would be sweet. You can't have too much pitching and, lets face it, the gluttony that defines free agency and the MLB market knows no financial bounds.

  3. Christ...that is one intense interview. Radiohead teaming with Wilco is a dream of mine. I wonder if they could do a version of Box Full of Letters [story behind that: I discovered Wilco by downloading a song that was tagged "Wilco and Radiohead - Box Full of Letters"]

I still have that track on my hard drive. I was just getting in to Wilco and was/am a huge Radiohead fan. Turns out to be the studio version off of A.M....I went around telling people it was a collaboration with Thom Yorke.

About the project, I am a skeptic...that being said, I'll give it a few listens before I fall in love.

  4. I'm looking foward to a thread about how people would rank their favorite wilco albums, anyone wanna get on that!

That's the one I really wanted to start. I hear that Mermaid Ave is only behind Summerteeth by like 2 percentage points. But, there is a margin of error (of 2 points).

  5. Yes, we pretty much suck.

    Lmao. Not all the time.

It's not like I'm exactly innocent. I make wiseass comments on certain threads too. Maybe I'm a little moody today.

  6. I know the boys are in the recording process but I haven't heard anything else about the upcoming record. If anyone has any info, feel free to share with the rest of us.

  7. Anybody else catch this? Sugaree. Jackie handled the vocals very nicely. It's always strange though to see a time limit being imposed - there was a missed verse, and the solos were SO concise!

Still cool to see the boys on free TV.

I got home, turned on the tube and alas, "Please welcome, Phil Lesh & Friends."

I was very happy that things unfolded in such a way as I am a big fan.

Very solid rendition of "Sugaree," one of my all time favorites. Good stuff.

  8. 0% chance for a new album this year.

    :realmad

I just got off the phone with Jeff and he said it was actually in the 3-5% range but thanks for the insight. I love it when folks state the obvious. They haven't released records in consecutive years since A.M. and Being There so I wasn't referring to the immediate future.

What I was getting at was whether or not anyone's heard anything concrete. It's coming up on a year since SBS so I figured there may be some rumors as to what's next.

Maybe Mermaid Ave. III is in the works. Now that would surely be gripping, compelling and rich, dontcha think Greg? I hear Arlo Guthrie is going to contribute on several tracks. They are going do an alt-country version of "Alice's Restaurant."
