  1. hi all,

in the best interest of jeff and other members of wilco, i think this topic should be closed. if magazines are quoting fan boards, who knows what lawyers will do if this nut is looking for some kind of compensation. we do live in a litigious society. this guy probably has already had several lawyers contact him about suing wilco, jeff and the venue. i am asking that we, wilco fans, put this incident behind us and only speak of how WILCO IS THE GREATEST FUCKING ROCK-N-ROLL BAND IN THE WORLD.

  2. While doing some research for work, I found this interesting article that applied to you. This guy tried to quit too, but came back after only a year. If this guy can serve Wilco for 54 years, so can you!

Wilco board secretary retires after 54 years

    Wichita Business Journal - September 29, 2006

    by Ken Vandruff

For more than 54 years, Ted Barnes got up each day and went to work at Wilco Inc. On Friday, he called it a career.

Barnes, 74, retired from his job as senior salesman and secretary of the board of directors for Wilco, a Wichita-based aviation parts and materials distributor.

"Just a real dedicated employee, someone that you can count on to be here everyday and give you 110 percent everyday," says Floyd Walpole, Wilco president.

Barnes joined the company in 1952. He left for one year to work for another employer then returned to Wilco for the remainder of his career.

  3. Thank you Mrs. Tweedy for sharing your baby with us. We love you Jeff.

  4. yeah, i'm pretty sure you & i are the only two people to talk about him besides the occassional newbie to him.

He played Tropical Heatwave in Tampa, FL back in May and during the performance he said they had never played the SE before. They absolutely stole the festival. The stage they played is called the "cantina", it is the basement of an old cigar factory. The most awesome acoustics because of all of the tile. Anyway, there were people literally hanging on (like in a subway) to hold their spot because the cantina was over capacity. It was an incredible performance.

LouieB, i would love to go to the double door and meet you, but I live too far away. I will just have to live vicariously through your concert experience! :)

  6. All of you who are on the west coast, please try to check out Chuck Prophet. From the 29 to Oct. 4 he is playing San Fran, Davis, Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa opening for Alejandro Escovedo in a variety of small clubs/venues. Chuck has been around for a long time, and has worked with many of the musicians discussed on this board. Chuck's website features diary entries that are worth reading. www.chuckprophet.com

Hi, thanks for all of the information. This is why I love VCer's so much. Although the move is not 100% certain, the company is flying me up in September to take a look around the Chicago area and the HR department is putting together a neighborhood study and a Realtor to help me out. When I posted I wanted some honest opinions, as opposed to some generic numbers in a packet of information. As I am coming from the suburbs, I would like to live in the city of Chicago, ideally in a loft-style apartment, in an area where I can walk to parks, the zoo, museums, etc. and a good (montessori?) school for my 5-year old little boy. I have had a few people tell me that Lincoln Park is a good area for young families. I know it is kind of expensive, but I will be renting for a year, so it might just be somewhat affordable. Plus, I live in a hurricane state, my home owners insurance just went up 52%, our local government raised our taxes, and a lot of people are having to move two counties away to even afford a home in central Florida. So, believe it or not, Chicago is looking very affordable.

According to Google, there are two montessori schools in the city of Chicago, one on Rogers Avenue and another on Irving Park. I called and both have very long waiting lists, as are most of the magnet/charter schools in Chicago. Does Chicago have a good public school system? Does the magnet/charter schools work on a lotto basis? I imagine that, like in all counties/states, there are good schools and bad schools. I might be moving from Florida, where teachers ummmm...socialize with their students as peers, FCAT scores are below average and our local schools have minimal or no art/music classes, but as I say again, our taxes continue to rise. Yes, I have a Bush for a Govenor. Ha, I can feel the rage as I type. :omg

I really appreciate all of the comments. Hopefully, if this does become reality, we can all be friends. I can have you over for a large skillet of paella and a glass of sangria. Perhaps I can get in on one of those Living Room concert deals. :) Thanks again for all your input. :worship

  8. It isn't that we chose not to disclose anything it is just that lots of people have already heard these things about us over and over and it has gotten kinda boring.

But if you can sit still for this one more time, here goes.

I came to Wilco through Uncle Tupelo, who I followed, but never saw because I was busy with a young family. I am far and away the oldest active person on the board, since I have been on this planet for 5.5 decades. I live within the city limits of Chicago and my daughter Tweedy's Gurl used to be the kid on block here, but now has a few years on her and is nearly out of her teens. I still go out and hear music on a regular basis and I am an avid record collector, both vinyl and CD, but don't really do downloads. I had seen Wilco several times prior to YHF, but after turning my daughter on to it, I was obliged to schelp her to see both the group and Tweedy and as a result I have met the band and loads of fans from all over the world. I would not have traded that experience for anything, because now I know people when I go see stuff and don't have to go alone anymore.

I have a rather mundane job as a state bureaucrat in the Illinois dept of Education, after having worked in community organizations and done some other interesting stuff such as union organizing and school reform. I have lived in Chicago my entire adult life, although I did not grow up here.

    That's about enough of that....
