We forgot to Remember the Mountain Bed!

Yeah she really sexes it up. Unfortunately at most Wilco shows the situation is as described by Flight of the Conchords in "Too Many Dicks on the Dance Floor"
Now here's the kind of thing we need to see more of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_fHGqNJYDQ

I love this song, one of my favorite Wilco tunes. A friend of mine tried to belittle it by saying it sounds too much like the Cure, but who cares.

The backing vocals are gorgeous, you can really hear the layers in headphones. And to me it also seems like Jeff's vocals have been done more "fully" or expansively, with a bit more echo, rather than the usual intimate, he's-singing-directly-into-your-ear style used on previous records. It's nice.
Also love the way he sings "Born Alone" dropping down low on "flattered by fate" etc

He is a little too much of the Danish for my taste, but is fine fellow in all other respectacles for sure.
If Mr Jeff Tweedy has a tent for the Wilco combo to share, then it is better to have Mr Mikael on inside of this Wilco tent making a little piss outwards when the necessary arrises, than it is for Mr Mikael to be on other side of Wilco tent making the little piss to all inside, as we say in Sweden.
Mr Jeff Tweedy make fierce correct decision in this judgement, for who has not had wish for someone to twiddle with knob for the moody from one time to another time. He also has the full capability to tinkle on ivories in pleasant way (and this keep them shiny white as strange true science fact! For he is so-called Mr Science and know this well).
Welfare!
Well there goes my theory about you being Mikael's alter ego. Of course I forgot Jorgensen is a Danish name.

There's a swirling guitar effect and picking technique that is very reminiscent of Dark Side of the Moon, which, let us not forget, was recorded at Abbey Road

By the far the best reason to visit ViaChicago

Hear, hear! I noticed it from my first listen when The Whole Love was streamed on Wilcoworld. The bass playing on this album is absolutely astounding.

And "Capital City" plays like a boozy, dreamy, punch-drunk waltz though Tin Pan Alley, sounding like Cole Porter if he was channeling Charles Bukowski.
Seriously, do these writers even know what a waltz is?
-
I love this album. I think the title is especially appropriate because on every track you can really feel and hear the love the band has for music and, yes, for its fans.
Thank you, Wilco.

I haven't heard the vinyl version yet. It will take a while to reach me in Belgium I guess. But I can say that I like the fadeout at the end of the CD version because it gives the impression that this song will go on forever -- something I would be happy for it to do.
I'm also bummed that the song order is different on the vinyl, with an extra song. I like the order of Whole Love and One Sunday Morning. It feels like the perfect ending.
But I guess in the old days of vinyl there were always issues with song order etc. I have a live album from the J. Geils band where the Love Rap spoken intro to Love Stinks ends side one just as Peter Wolf says "LOVE...." and you have to flip over to side two to hear him say "STINKS!!"

Rolling Stone's review can be added to the list of those that can't quite nail "Capitol City." In this case -- a waltz? Not quite. Are music writers not learning their stuff?
I noticed that. How can you not know what a waltz is?

La poste est tres vite a Belgique! :-)
I won't get to listen to my vinyl for quite some time yet...:-(
Really! That's news to me. I'm in Brussels, too. Where's my vinyl!!?

I think everyone is reading to much into the "you won't set the kids on fire" lyric. To me it's a dad rock reference about wilco's music not exciting the young kids and to that Tweedy responds " oh but I might.". Anyone else read it that way?
Agreed. This is rather obvious (though not totally). Why is everyone having so much trouble understanding this lyric?

"and things got weird, and I started growing Benny Ulvaeus' beard"
It is presented in my head for every time of spin of this track like a hard-wire or response of a dog of the Dr. Pavlov all din-dins call and drip of mouth! It is shame these dogs did not known sacred freedom of the wilderness my friends, so I make a little memory tear on their behalf during enhanced atmosphere of the doleful promoted by this song. In truth it is a fine thing to have a small taste of this poor spirit my friends, for then whole world feel shiny and bright as the sequin on new tank top once you make return to the sound of Mr Benny and Mr Bjorn. They know the power of the contrast for success in pop chart. You have only to see the contrasting hairy qualities of Lady Agnetha and Lady Frida. It is subtle ploy no? I am betting that you have never even had an appreciate before this time! This is work of Mr Stig at his best in svengali style! But I am for sure willing to fall under this spell ha ha!
Welfare!
Well clearly this is a misheard lyric, as Mr. Jeff Tweedy would never the bad combination of Mr. Benny Andersson and Mr. Bjorn Ulvaeus' names in this unfortunate style make!

I thought it was a nice diversion. It took a lot of listens though. It kind of breaks things up, like a palate cleansing slice of lemon during a big dinner. It takes some of th intensity that leads up to and includes Open Mind, gives you a fresh start, and sorts you out for the intensity that is coming at the end. You can't sustain the intensity that starts with Art of Almost through a song like One Sunday Morning. The bizarre noises in the song, the fact the guy can't call with a subway token but it doesnt matter because the phones are all broken, brings on a great turn of the century , World Fair image. HArd to say why I like this, and since I have developed a huge love of this album I digress, but the album to me is like a puzzle and this song is a cool middle piece that ties stuff together.
I agree. The song reminds me of John Dos Passos' USA trilogy, which is an awesome work of literature and a vivid snapshot of American life in the early 20th century. Tweedy's lyrics work the same kind of magic for me. And the music, while borderline twee, is actually really good. I think the song is like a Randy Newman song without the self-reverential and annoying aspects.
Plus I dig the way the guitar solo sounds like a clarinet

The e-mail also said South Bend is their last North American show of the year.
Musicians are notoriously unpredictable and known to sometimes change their minds. One can always have hope...

Reading the latest HQ email. It sunk in. This is the first year Wilco hasn't played Chicago Jan 1 - Dec 31 in their career.
That is a bummer. I wonder if they felt burned by the poor attendence at UIC night 2.
Que the "Chicago can't complain" "but all solo Wilcos played in 2010" "South Bend isn't that far" "they played in Oct of '09" emails
It is July

The Tony Margherita p.r. machine is out of control!! Will there now be a whole new influx of Wilco fans who are only into them because of their penchant for a certain trendy type of real estate?
Oh what the heck. Come on down, Loft-o-philes, there's room for you too in Wilco Nation

Wow, this article manages to make all kinds of errors, not just the name of the movie. The caption on the photo is wrong. And I accuse the writer of altering all of Jeff's quotes subtly to use Brit-Irish usage, terminology, etc. like "full stop" instead of "period" and "to hand" instead of "at hand." Would Jeff really talk that way? I doubt it. The writer is obviously a miserable cut! (I think he also left a letter out of that term, too.)

It is an incredible album.
As somebody else on this forum has previously pointed out, it is an album that begins with "Maybe" and ends with "Yeah"

Really nice performance!
Here's a vid, maybe someone else will post one without the insistent floating yellow arrow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4NPMjmZ-5A
