  1. i missed the streaming of SBS on saturday so this is my first time hearing a finished track. i like how "what light" came out -- they sound like the band at times! :rock

    Same here. This is amazing.

Same as well. I wish I didn't miss the streaming, this makes me so excited to hear the whole thing.

  2. Did you see the new Rolling Stone listing Nels guitar work on "Ashes..." from Kicking Television as a defining moment. Nels is now considered one of the top "new" guitar players. Bout time!

That solo is easily one of my favorite moments in all of the rock music I have listened to in my life.

    Bravo Mr. Cline. Bravo.

As far as Ashes is concerned, I always thought it was about war veterans and THEIR disconnect, that they were the fallen leaves filling up shopping bags.....but I am probably wrong.

  3. I have to admit, I do not know the name of the song, (as I have just now found steady employment and can afford such things as a new computer and high speed internet) but the insturmental they did while recording YHF which consits of mostly piano and Glenn's brushes gently sliding over the snare, (in the movie IATTBYH there are lyrics) is easily one of those "Wilco moments" where I am beyond a Wilco geek just loving a band regardless but rather a witness to something special...a crazy sense of pride in the fact that I can understand just how special what I just listened to was.

I wish it was left as is, and made any record. (without lyrics.)

By the by, if someone could name that tune, I can now download it. (I bought a new computer!)

  4. Not only is he a Wilco fan, but clearly inspiring. Every time I hear him speak I am humbled, yet empowered with the mind set of optimism and hope... and it makes me feel I might again believe in a country I was once so proud of.

  5. I dislike when bands play it exactly like the studio version.

    Keep playin' it fast, Wilco!

    :no

I hate it when I go to a show and the song is different. I personally like seeing how a song is played on the guitar, or what effects they use to achieve a sound. But I hate it more than anything when a song is played completely different. I mean, it must get boring playing the same songs night after night, but us the fans have payed good money for tickets. I don't want to hear a joke version of Monday, or Heavy Metal Drummer.

And as much as I love Tweedy, I can't stomach his harmonica, long drawn out version of Sunken Treasure, which on Being There is beautiful, haunting, and one of my all time favorites.

  6. My goodness, GINO's East Pizza on Lincoln/Diversy for two great reasons.

    1) Chicago style pizza has to be eaten in Chicago to understand why it is the greatest food invented and

    2) Gino's East has parking! If you are driving, you don't want to deal with trying to find a meter, or paying for valet.

I also recommend Leona's, awesome fun Italian eatery that is perfect for people visiting Chicago, it is at Racine and Belmont, directly across the street from The Vic Theatre, home of Kicking Television.

  7. After reading 15 pages discussing this incident, I ask the powers to be to close my thread. In my defense, my internet was down for a bit, I can't believe I am the last Wilco fanatic to hear of this.

    Sheesh.

By the by, I feel the most sorry for Jeff. It had to be unneeded stress.

  8. I think Nels' solos are easily the best Wilco has ever seen. I imagine he plays in the style that Tweedy deems fit for each song. His solo on Ashes of American Flags off Kicking Television proves he can play the perfect rock solo anytime he wants.

  9. Jay Bennett > you

    :thumbup

    shut up. (Lazy Locomotive)

Dear Goodness, it was a JOKE, and more than anything a joke based on the fact that anytime Jay's name is brought up on VC, a Jay/Nels debate always seems to unfold. Why some people on this site get so defensive and uptight over a message board fan site is beyond me.

P.S. I love Wilco. Take a deep breath there buddy.

  10. Glenn: "Look, there is a Travel Plaza Oasis in Michigan City that have these really great jalepeno hot dogs. I say we re-route the tour bus in Gary, and cancel the Lansing gig."

Leroy: (in his mind) "I am so out of here."
