I am currently living on the Upper East Side in Manhattan, and I think that my general feeling as is a number of others I have talked to here is that more than anything, we want this day to come and go without another attack of any kind, and at the same time, quiet reflection.

I just happen to be in New York on the 18th already????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks!
P.S.....................
Jeff > Wilco -
Is he still playing with Eric Heywood?
-
I still think that Wilco will have the element of weird and wacky on this album, but I am guessing with Nel's it will be in a more organic and insturment influenced way, rather than creating sounds from random objects like hubcaps. Hince, I think they will be more of a rockband, and less of the "America's answer to Radiohead" label they get stuck with at times.

With the slight exception that Steve Irwin was a professional crocodile handler and Timmy Treadwell was a confused and delusional amateur seeking a name for himself.
With the similarity that they both put themselves in harm's way for showmanship.

He was playing against some odds that were likely to catch up with him eventually. If you put yourself in mortal danger as regularly as he did, your luck will probably run out sometime.
That said, I always enjoyed watching his show, though I was never a regular viewer. His enthusiasm was certainly infectious, and it was obvious how much he cared about wildlife and the environment. Definitely a good guy and a great loss.
This reminds me too much of the Grizzly Man whom followed the bears in Alaska until what do you know, a bear kills him. So sad.

Ok, ok, LANDMARK might have been a strong word for Bar Louie.
Sheesh, sensitive people! I was right about everything else, except, yes, it IS called Days Inn Gold Coast, although it is about eight blocks north of the Gold Coast.
Try to be nice.....

In all seriousness, I would like to see the M's. Nice Chicago band, and nice guys as well.
-
If you think the song is a ripoff of "I Got You," then he's ripping off himself, so I think that's allowed. I like the new stuff. Sounds like Jay's doing alright.

AVOID the local, private hotels in Chicago. Trust me. The CHEAPEST (and best) hotel to stay at in Chicago is the Lincoln Park Days Inn. My friends stay there and rooms are 59 dollars. It is across the street from the actual park, and over looks Lake Michigan. (you can request a room facing the Lake for no extra charge, which I recommend as the sunrise on the lake is a beautiful site) It is five minutes from downtown, two minutes from Lakeshore Drive, and you are in lovely Lincoln Park (where I live) where there is everything to do. Very safe. This hotel as well has the famous Bar Louie, a Chicago landmark in its lobby as well as a 7-11 type convienence store that sells food, beer, booze, etc. You will be most satisfied, I recommend it to anyone staying in Chicago.
Good luck.

I like Jay and what he brought to the table in Wilco, but I can not understand how people are getting into his latest stuff. I listened to his stuff on MySpace, and for starters his voice is painful to listen to, its a flem filled growl of a voice, and not in a Tom Waits charming way. Lay of the tabacco my friend. And secondly, the song "Replace You" sounds like a Being There rip off. I thought I was listening to "I Got You (At the End of the Century)" for a moment.

Curious what pick you took portis with. My draft is in a week and i have the 7th pick. I'm worried that Portis will be there and that I may have to take him.Take Portis, then grab TJ Duckett in the 10th round as insurance.
I did have the seventh pick! And I had to take him. I also did take TJ as the backup. Nice Call!
By the way, I will trade anyone Rod Smith for a hamburger.

Jeff is one of my favorite artists/performers/writers, but to categorically state that for the last 20 years everybody else has been shite is kind of a hard pill to swallow.
Elliot Smith
Ryan Adams
Olson/Louris
Jay Farrar
C. Robinson/R. Robinson
I could go on.
Sheryl Crow
Fall Out Boy
Hulk Hogan's Daughter
I could go on.

I got stuck with a bunch of scrags.
I was curious as to people's starting lineups
I got Clinton Portis, Antonio Gates and Trent Green and then some real bench warmners.

Jesus... I can't believe these discussions still go on. Bands evolve, people change and go their seperate ways. It doesn't mean one is better than another. I personally prefer Jay's influence on the band than the stuff that I've heard since, but I won't discount Nels' or anyone else's work as inferior just because I happen to like the alternative.
More importantly, the band doesn't really give a toss what we think about issues like this anyway. Jeff is going to steer the ship in whatever direction comes naturally to him regardless of what the fans think.
Sit back and enjoy the ride or seek out a new band that blows your hair back more than Wilco. Either way, it doesn't seem necessary to belittle one in order to praise the other.
I'm going to get a beer now.

Hmmmm.......well, what we think is the whole purpose of VC. I don't think that Jeff does "give a toss" or is going to be influenced when I post a comment saying something like "I don't like horns" on a paticular song.
I love when peoples opinions are that peoples opinions are worthless on a message board like this one, and they use the message board to state that opinion.

I like all of them except Is That the Thanks I Get. It's just very... pedestrian. It could end up being phenomenal, but the version I heard is missing something.
Are you talking about the Conan version? Because after all these years of feedback, drone and crazy sounds, its refreshing to hear some straightfoward Wilco. I can't stop listening to the Conan version.
I also love how Conan yells "Guys!" at the end of the performance. He is a fan. Well, I don't know if he is or not, but I assume he is because he gives the Conan "bow of respect" when he mentions their name.

remember, you're giving us 10i'm in
I AM giving you ten. Just because Herm is our coach, don't expect the #1 Offense is all the land to go anywhere. Trent Green will get the freedom to call the plays at the line, Larry Johnson is pissed off and Kyle Turley is doing "better than ever expected" filling in for Roaf, who still might play.
Ten dollars, ten points.
Give me your info if you are in.
And after Week one, go Bengals. I have always liked them, Palmer, and the fact the fans stuck through the Bungle years.
-
Can I get a piece of that?yeh, I'd like it too
What would Ron Cey Say?!
i'd put 100 on dat betGentlemen, gentlemen, the Chiefs NEVER lose in Arrowhead.
Sea of Red.
I will bet you all ten dollars. And I am a man of my word, so if you really want it, bring it.
-
you are most wise
Bengals looked awesome last night, better than I expected, frankly
Ten bucks says Chiefs over Bengals Week one by ten points.

WOAH! The Washington Redskins owner just signed Tom Cruise to a two year deal! Wow. And I thought the Raiders hiring Jeff George was a bad move....
-
How about Foxtrot? That sounds like a dog....trottin along.
-
I pray. And my prayers are not "hope." Nothing wrong with believing in God folks.
-
The Cheifs also lost Tony Richardson. That's gonna hurt.
I will tell you what is going to hurt. Larry Johnson pissing on the rest of the AFC's dead skull, that is what is going to hurt.
Two Words: Go Chiefs.
