  1. I know the band but I'm not too familiar with their material; however, I do own a song by them. They did a cover on this Rutles tribute cd I have, Rutles Highway Revisited. They do Love Life. Pretty cool cd if you can find it (Galaxie 500, King Missile, etc.)

Am I remembering correctly that Ann M. was on that Richard Lewis/Jamie Lee Curtis sitcom or was she on another show?

  2. Amazing. I read about their philosophy on performing a number of years ago. They treat Beatles music as pieces to be performed rather than songs to cover (ala a tribute or cover band). They see the recordings as the definitive versions of the songs and try to reproduce them much like an orchestra would reproduce a Beethoven or Mozart from the sheet music.

  3. I just saw online that the band my little brother used to be in, The London Souls, that got their start in my parent's basement, are opening for two shows on The Black Crowes latest tour (Long Island and New Hampshire). That was odd to see when looking for tickets. Good luck to them.

  4. So sad to hear this news. Saw the reunited Big Star in the 90s and they were great. Big Star has been a big influence on me over the years. I'm sorry we won't be able to hear the quirky directions Alex would have gone into in the future. His backup vocals on Chris Bell's You and Your Sister always give me the chills.

    RIP.

LA band from a while back. They recorded an album's worth of material at AIR studios and the above album is the result. Schmed, the songwriter, was in a band called Arlo for a while and was even brought in by Weezer for a little bit to play keyboards when they were demoing an album a long while back. I could see PopTodd liking this one.

  6. I was just listening to Teenage Fanclub's album 13 today. That's the album that really made me love that band but listening to it today made me realize the production is really muddy and is not as crisp sounding as their other albums.

Does that count? I really like the record and don't think it's a "bad" record, just needs a facelift.

  7. I hope they don't look back in anger.

They can use a break (probably all this is) to maybe figure out how to write good songs again.

I would love to see Noel write some good tunes again. If that means time away from his brother, so be it.

Oasis is one of those bands that friends of mine can't believe I like knowing the other bands I like (does that make sense?). They were, at their best, a great rock band with memorable melodies. After "Morning Glory", they lost a bit of their "fun" and tried to rip off psychedelic glam rock. A bit like McCartney (or Lennon, I can't remember the quote) describes Elvis. Before he went into the army, there was a glint of danger and fun in his eye, but after he got back from the army, that little thing, whatever it was, was gone.
