  1. Don't be making fun of Arod's failures in the post-season. It's irrelevant because of how awesome he is in the regular season.

Then Yankee fans will be happy to have individual players have awesome regular seasons and not make the playoffs or go out in the first round. I don't know if that goes along with George/Hal/Hank's plan for their team.

  2. Boston fan here but I live in NY and Sabathia was all over the morning Sports Talk shows. One thing I didn't hear anyone talking about was Sabathia's ARod-esque failure in the postseason with both Cleveland and Milwaukee. He gets in a lot if innings during the season and it looks like it affects his post season play. Granted, he's one of the premier pitchers in the game right now and he may well get the Yankees to the playoffs this year but it is yet to been seen how Sabathia can carry a team in the playoffs.

  3. He does tend to take things too far with the overacting but I think he's got some really funny bits. If he could just stick to a joke and move on. Maybe he has a tough time coming up with material and tries to stretch things out?

    Dane Cook, no comment.

  4. I'm going on Monday night and don't really need to see Everest. My ticket says 8 pm start time and there's a train that gets into Penn station at 8:06. I wouldn't imagine the starting bands would begin before the stated time on the ticket, would they?

  5. I think "McCartney" is one of his best.

A lot of people don't like "Pipes of Peace" but he's got some really great tunes on there.

"Flowers in the Dirt" was a good one as well. Especially his collaborations with Elvis Costello.

"Flaming Pie" I used to like but after repeated listens in recent years, I find it really flat. There is a lot of filler on that one.

"Chaos and Creation in the Backyard" I feel stands up better than "Flaming Pie."

"Give My Regards to Broad Street" has some good original material as well as a lot of reinterpreted Beatles tunes.

As with most McCartney releases, you've got to sift through some of the cheesier stuff and sometimes look past the production to get to the heart of a great song. Sometimes the cheesier stuff is what you're in the mood for (and that's OK!).

  6. XTC!

I'm on board with this. It would be cool to have:

    Andy Partridge

    Colin Moulding

    Dave Gregory

    Terry Chambers

    Barry Andrews

all in there together. Especially since Gregory and Andrews were never in there together. Andrews and Partridge did that Monstrance project a few years ago so you never know.

  7. pure emotion

This reminds me of Eddie Wilson (Michael Pare) in Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives as he explains putting emotion into songs rather than technical wizardry. It's actually not a bad movie and I agree with much of the "philosophy" in it.

Oh my god, did I just reference Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives?

Which brings me to another rock and roll myth, Eddie didn't die in that car crash in the first movie.

  8. I haven't heard anything on their new one either but I'm looking forward to it.

Bought their debut at the last, good local record store in my area which promptly closed a few weeks later.

Do they have a myspace page/original website? They might be streaming clips somewhere.

  9. http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news...uring-oasis-gig

    Pitchfork article and YouTube link.

Although Pitchfork takes some digs of their own on Noel Gallagher, I think it's kind of a scary thing to see a performer being attacked like this. It wasn't just a tap, the guy really took him out. On the Oasis website it says they took Noel to the hospital after the show, which they finished, for suspected broken ribs and torn ligaments.

Definately not the same type of thing with Jeff taking a swing at that stage crasher a while ago.

  10. I just finished "The Road" after seeing it a #1 on this list. Man, that was a good book.

I agree with the poster that it's a shame there is no Irvine Welsh on there. I've read a lot of his books with the exception of Trainspotting and found them all great. Maribou Stork Nightmares being my favorite.

Would have liked to have seen more John Irving on there but I'm guessing they were going for one book per author.

I picked up "The Ruins" by ? Smith at the library tonight after seeing it on this list. I'd heard it was a great book but the movie they made recently was supposed to be horrible.

I've been using this list as a "oh yeah, I wanted to check that one out" reminder list.

  11. I filled up this past Saturday on Long Island for $4.17 then took a road trip to Boston with a return trip on Sunday ($3.99 in MA).

What I noticed on my trip was, even with it being Memorial Day, there was basically no one on the road. It's either people did their traveling on Friday night or the gas prices are forcing people to stay close to home on Memorial Day.

  12. The Brand New Heavies - Heavy Rhyme Experience

I thought it was one of the best real band/rap artist records.

On that same note, the Teenage Fanclub/De La Soul tune Fallin from the Judgement Night soundtrack was always a favorite. Actually, on iTunes, that is the #1 downloaded Teenage Fanclub track.
