  1. In the words of the Dude, "well, that's, like your opinion, man."

One song out of twenty five. Like I said in my original post, 20 of the 25 are easily predictable.

  2.

How is it? I watched the film last night. Very interesting in the film concept and footage used; the segment where they covered the topic of the various drummers throughout their career was particularly amusing. I hope the DVD will have a bonus disc with full performances. On the downside, there doesn't seem to be anything too revelatory in what info was used in the film that hasn't already been mentioned throughout the years in news and magazine interviews. Still an entertaining viewing.

  3. There's something about Capital City that reminds me of 'Good Company' by Queen.

was hoping for a more cohesive album, since one of my biggest problems with Wilco (TA) was that it didnt seem to have much focus. However if the songs are good, then it could feel more like a variety show. Adding the extra bonus tracks will definitely make it a lengthy listen.

also I wouldnt be too scared about the jazz aspect of Capitol City. I'm sure it's still a rock song with jazzy aspects, kind of like Steely Dan or something. I'm interested to hear it.

  4. It doesn't have to be one or the other, there's room for both in my book. I've seen both live multiple times and enjoyed each experience. I wasn't excited about the King of Limbs, but I will see the band when they tour again.

"there's a good probability that if you dislike one, you probably dislike the other."

Not so for me. I've tried many times over the years to listen and "like" Radiohead. I know they're an important band and I feel like I'm supposed to like them. My most recent attempt were this past week with SNL and Colbert. But try as I might, I just don't get Radiohead. Their music does absolutely nothing for me. I have now officially given up trying to like them. I will go on my Wilco way.

  5. I did notice that the crowd wasnt really into it. When Jeff first asked how folks were doing, there were a few cheers, but nothing overwhelming. I'm not sure why the band hasn't played Charlottesville in four years, but come back guys. There are your usual Chatty Cathys, but the majority of the crowd will give as much to you as you give to us.

  6. yep, One True Vine is tops for me

    Thanks!

I picked Student Loan (stereo), Cars Can't Escape, and One True Vine.

Student Loan (Stereo) is just a fast, fun almost punk rock song. It's a side of Wilco we don't see often. Just a Kid, Kicking Television and The Minus Five's (I've Got a) Lyrical Stance are similar songs.

Like many fans I've been fascinated by Cars Can't Escape since hearing the YHF demos, then later its inclusion on "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" and Jay Bennett's horrible reworking on his album "Bigger Than Blue." Why was it cut? Who wrote it? It's an amazing song that I wish they played more often.

One True Vine is just a sweet soulful song. Some R&B influence there.

  7. When they began Red-Eyed & Blue, Jeff had to switch guitars because the one he was going to use was out of tune. He made a comment like 'that's what I get for letting someone else use my guitar, so I guess Lowe had used his.

I concur about Glenn. The whole band was energized tonight. Although Ive heard the older songs plenty of times, they sounded fresh tonight. Pot Kettle Black was so intense that Jeff broke a string. Nels went to town on 'Impossible Germany', he played a kick-ass solo towards the end of the song that I had not heard before. I was blown away by Bull Black Nova live. No Laminated Cat but we did get Say You Miss Me, which I wasn't expecting. I must say that the more I listen to 'the whole love' the more convinced I am that it is the band's best to date. This is definitely a band thinking with one mind and enjoying it immensely.

Lowe sang first verse of I Love My Label, Tweedy the second. 36 Inches was the absolute best part of the show and Lowe was playing an electric for these two songs! Kotche was otherwordly incredible the whole night!

  8. They did trade off. That one was awesome as well. I felt so-so about Nick Lowe as an opening act, I think if he had a full band behind him, I would have gotten into it more. I met WilcoMe and her friend Cynthia tonight and had fun hanging out with them.

That's "36 Inches". How'd they handle the vocals on "I Love My Label"? Did Nick & Jeff trade off? You lucky stiffs! I knew they'd do that together eventually....and should've figured they'd do it in honor of Release Day! :lol
