Rourke was better in The Wrestler

are you an AC fan in general? their stuff is pretty tough to "get into", i guess you could say. took me almost a year of listening, then putting it down in disgust, then picking it up 4 months later and giving it another shot.
I had Feels for a good 2 years before it finally clicked (also had a period of thinking it was lousy)....one of my favorite albums ever now.
Merriweather is so good. Don't give up!
-
Hopefully you already have Merriweather Post Pavillion

Really don't like it much at all.
Really like a few tracks,
Really despise a few tracks (on and on and on, what light, leave me...)

The real douche is the dick who took the picture and sold it. Phelps is an idiot, but that guy's a prick.
I think the real douche bags are the people making such a big deal of this whole ordeal. He is 23 years old. Just because he is a great swimmer does not make up for the fact that he is still just a kid, and wants to have fun. I understand the fact that he has a responsibility to his fans, but if they are true fans, they will see him not as an iconic figure, but as a human being, a 23 year old human being, who probably drinks, smokes the occasional bowl, and works his ass off in the swimming pool. I am sure everybody has inhaled the deadly smoke of marijuana, and Michael Phelps should be able to have fun, get away for a little while, without having everyone breaking his back.
That said, he is an idiot for doing it where there were cameras around, but if people think this was his first time smoking marijuana they are in denial. Humans make mistakes, his mistake however was not smoking marijuana, but smoking marijuana with cameras around. He should be able to do whatever the hell he wants.
I read a frustrating article in USA Today that had lines such as
"This is a sad day for Phelps, and a sadder day for the millions of parents and young athletes who planned their lives around his races last August"
"Perhaps there wont be any (repercussions) at all, although we can only imagine the reaction in Battle Creek, Mich., where no advertising executive ever envisioned pairing Corn Flakes with Pot"
"...another apology. You want to believe him, of course, because he is Michael Phelps. But, sadly, now, you do have to wonder."
Can we get anymore melodramatic??
Planned their lives around his races??? You mean watched them?
When do we draw the line...is this really a problem of Phelps, or a problem with Marijuana, or is it really a problem of society?
I am rambling, I just get pissed at the dramatic people like the writer in USA Today, he smoked some weed, big fucking deal, he still works his ass off and swims great, isn't that enough for a swimmer?

Sorry, I get the confusion now. You thought I was referring to the movie "The Reader" which would make the most sense, I suppose. Actually, I was wondering if you were the guy that wrote this.
Yea I mostly agree with that guy too. I love AB, but his new album is really terrible. However, this is not a music thread, therefore, I am done.
-
Did you say what you hate about it?
Oh jeez...I was hoping you wouldn't ask, there is far too much. I will start by saying the first quarter of the movie was very good and drew me in, only to regurgitate me in the most disgusting way possible. If you have not yet seen the movie please stop reading, I do not want to give anything away, though I do not recommend seeing it. I will also say that I have my harsh views, and you have you all have your views, and if you really liked this movie, we are going to have to agree to disagree.
Basically I hated Caden, he was a depressing loser and none of his relationships (3) made sense to me. When his wife left him, I don't know if I was suppose to feel bad, or happy for the wife for leaving the pathetic piece of shit. After she left the movie spun out of control. Everything felt like it was kind of thrown all over the place, and I got sick of the little puns that Kaufman consistently threw into almost every scene. Right when he started making the production I knew this movie was not for me. Basically I became so disconnected with this movie that everything started to seem stupid to me (the funerals, the house fire, everything with his daughter, the shrinks book, everything with the 'production', the suicide....and more). To me, nothing was as stupid as when Sammy came and said he was following Caden and knew everything about him....I just thought that was so freakin retarded and I know it is suppose to be artsy and I am suppose to be open to this kind of writing, but it was fuckin stupid and awful. It got to the point where I thought it was such a bad movie that I did not see the point to try to analyze every little thing, totally lost interest, hated the movie.
Then I find out everybody likes it, and it just pisses the hell out of me.
I know most of you disagree and are pissed off with probably everything I said about the movie.
I will take my Valium now, and chill out.
-
Do you by chance write for The Reader?
Negative, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Yes, my head did 'esplode'.
I told you guys I hate that movie with a passion....sorry if I offended anyone.
-
Fuck you, man. I am intellectually inclined and I liked this movie. Eat me.
keep pretending, keep drinking your latte, fuck you too.
-
damn, you're a load of laughs. What movies did you like, genius?
My favorites of 2008:
The Wrestler
The Visitor
Ballast
Milk
Doubt
The Reader
To me Gran Torino was garbage. I know people are defending the horrible acting by saying they were amateurs, however they were still awful, and one man can't make up for a horrible supporting cast. And for the same reason I didn't like Slumdog Millionaire, I thought the end was corny, far-fetched, and unrealistic. For example when the kid drives up in the Gran Torino wearing the pin, eying down all the gangsters. Give me a fucking break. And the lame song at the end put my hatred over the top.
Synecdoche speaks for itself, the only people who claim they like this shitty movie are people who want to seem intellectually inclined, but really aren't. It tries way too hard and fails on so many different levels. The movie is total trash. Stick with Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine, or Being John Malkavich and don't direct another movie Kaufman.

I think Daily Routine needs to go. Maybe No More Runnin', too.
I couldn't disagree more. Daily Routine is one of my favorite songs on the album. No more runnin has a great feel to it.
Right now I would rank songs
Bluish>Taste>In The Flowers>Daily Routine>My Girls>Lion in a Coma>Brothersport>Summertime Clothes>No More Runnin>Guys Eyes>Also Frightened
I like every song on this cd.
-
Saw it because I love Kaufman.
Hated it because it was a terrible artsy fartsy movie for yuppies only.
Worst movie of the year, just because it was trying to be so good.
I am also so happy that Gran Torino did not get any noms. What a piece of shit movie.
-
I've been trying since the day it came out (or before, since I probably downloaded a leak). It's not that I don't like it. I just end up wanting to hear something else by the time it gets near the end.
I guess I just don't understand because I love that album so much. Loch Raven?
-
Like Feels? I've probably never listened to that all in one sitting.
You should try it sometime.

As a pretty big fan of Andrew Bird, even I admit that this cd sucks.
