is this the only reason you'd want to see them?
not the only reason, i love the jayhawks, but would i see golden smog without jeff? probably not... would i see the jayhawks alone, yes... but i wouldnt consider myself just a golden smog fan.

I was about to say the same thing.....actually you could have fired a canon through the back of the the main floor or the back of the balcony and not hit a soul.
LouieB
i wish i would have gone to this one, i knew tweedy would be there,i could have come home... poor decision not to

Jimmy Buffett.
There, I said it. Let the mocking begin.
not even a guilty pleasure. not even.
-
I listen to a lot of hiphop but I dont consider it a guilty pleasure just because of its genre.. I wouldnt like a band id be ashamed to admit to enjoying anyway... except I used to always defend Guster, and I hate Dave Matthews and all that crap people compare their music to, and then they made a really shitty album last year and suck now... i actually confronted their drummer and asked why he stopped playing the bongos and what happened, he didnt appreciate that

Pitchfork Music Festival > LollapaloozaWhere can you get the 60 dollar tickets? Or is it some exclusive thing....I try and try, but I'm never quite 'hip' enough, dammit!
it was sent out through the mailing lists yesterday morning, there were 3000 tix and they sold out in 12 minutes... kinda sucked i spent my entire day in a virtual waiting room running back from class to see if it had gone through...
anyway im excited for lupe fiasco, that probably means kanye again (i probably shouldnt admit that here, but im a chicago boy)
They say that pumpkins thing every year, so ill believe it when i see it, although im not a fan really... i never understood why/how billy corgan became the face of chicago music...
pearl jam would be alright, eddie vedders another good chicago guy.
as for pitchfork, i didnt go, it sounds like it would have been awesome and definitely for the taste of people on this board but Lolla had a surreal feeling about it, and for me anyway it was more about everyone i know being there and our last week all in the city before going back to school, i cant wait for it.

Just got this in an e-mail from WXRT, in Chicago:
XRT SUNDAY NIGHT CONCERT (3/11) - GOLDEN SMOG (7:30-9pm) SPECIAL TIME!Recorded "live" in a sold-out XRT Show at the Vic Theatre (9/19/06).
It streams on their website, could anyone possibly record it?? I'll be out of the country and won't be able to ... I dont know if this show was circulating but I really wanted to hear it and the quality should be really great.
-
its a very interesting thought anyway... what if they throw more tracks on?
-
From sonorama.net (english language version)
(free online translator version)
i used to use the same thing to convince girls i spoke italian... didnt work out.

This just in: If you change your sound over the course of six albums and steadily grow a modest fan base, you're a bunch of geniuses. If you change your sound and a bunch of people like it, it's bullshit wannabe art school bullshit that's a bullshit move to sell more bullshit records.
exactly. her art school b.s. is just as bad as everything else though, it just has selling out on top of it
-
Ah I can't wait for the next best weekend of my life... anyone get the $60 tickets today?? thoughts on artists?
-
i feel like theres so many other really talented female artists that somehow shes stealing thunder from (yamagata, jenny lewis, fiona apple).. it kinda pisses me off she just changed her sound to sell records and got popular but its bullshit because its just wannabe art school sound

hey thanks everyone! anyone have any ideas like landmarks... im thinking like abbey road... anything else along those lines worth seeing?

Hey I dig wilco, compared to most modern bands, to me they maybe the most interesting to follow, but dude, THE BAND! you may have gotten a little carried away there.
i think without the mystique of the era they came from they match up pretty well.
-
No - the one I am thinking of is from the Being There or Summerteeth era.
really, that could be interesting to look back at, im gonna look into it...
-
Try listening to it backwards.
wow, i never knew satan had such an influence on wilco, interesting.
-
i think wilco will be an influence to bands in the future in the same sense the band was an influence on wilco... atleast i hope.
-
it sounds like versions with nels playing with jeff at solo shows lately actually, but less so than the album versions... interesting
-
So Im walking back from class today listenin to the album (if anyone goes to U of Iowa, im the weird guy whos been singing wilco on campus non stop for a week) but i realized it starts pretty hopefully, "maybe the sun will shine again...", and goes a lot of different ways before ending at On & On & On, which to me atleast, has a sense of morbid hopefullness that only wilco could really propose..
Also anyone else think that this album is a homerun because of on & on & on? Its the first time ive walked away from an album with the sense of a true powerful ending that just fits, wraps everything up, and is still an incredible song on its own... just thoughts, just thoughts..
-
He also writes a lot of liner notes for cd re-issues.
Wilco has been in a feature story in RS - at least once.
I can't recall the date - I think I have the issue.
the jist of that story is jeff tweedys out of rehab...
i feel like if they wrote a story they would completely misrepresent the band...
-
What your getting at is that you want another Spiders? I think it was wise to move away from that. Plus any song over 6 mins automaticlly gets a minus in my book.
with keving's picture did anyone else hear dwight when reading his post?
-
Im going to London for the first time next week, the 10th-16th, anyone from there/been there know any good places to check out for music sightseeing or know where i can find if anyone worth seeing is playing over there then?
-
I honestly couldn't care less
good contribution
and frickes the editor of rolling stone also, not just the guy from the movie.
