  1. Lets be completely critical here folks... I was listening to Spoon's gagagagaga and although the bands name and album could have both been written by a baby, the lofi experimental sound reminded me of what music could be the way Yankee Hotel Foxtrot once did. I love Sky Blue Sky I think "You Are My Face" may be one of the most well crafted songs of all time, completely brilliant record... but its a breezy 70s record. I understand theres more to it than that but it will forever by the Wilco album I put on in a relaxing mixed company enviornment, not the throw you off with buzzs and whirrs I love this band for... but is Wilco a band that left their stamp on the music community with Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, for a band that always is changing direction theyve seemed to lost a certain amount of excitement... In the sense only that maybe SBS would have fit better before YHF... the evolution process went, not awry, not elsewhere, but somehwat flatlined... I always thought the great thing about that record is what it represented as far as where Wilco COULD go, its a masterpiece of potential and I feel like a lot of other bands in a sense stole the reins (not the sound) of the direction wilco was perhaps leading music. Sorry thats a bit of rambling but if anyone can discern the point im trying to make and respond to it, go for it.

  2. there was a car commercial, maybe only locally, for an automaker that I cant remember off the top of my head, which used War on War, which was part of why I was confused as to the shock around the very tasteful and not worthy of a sellout label VW ads. Sorry for the long sentence, take a breath at the commas.

  3. I read somewhere on a Pearl Jam site not tlong ago that when they played three consecutive nights in a city that I don't recall they played an entirely different set list every night. No repeats whatsoever for three straight nights. I think it came out to 75-80 total songs. That's one of the most amazing things I've ever heard of a band doing. I think I saw Wilco about 10 times on various AGIB shows, and I'm pretty sure I didn't hear more than 35-40 songs on all of those shows combined.

    thats because wilco sucks dude.

  4. hmm, not for me. $35 for a concert ticket is pushing it, anything higher is ridiculous. if I miss out on ticket sales, oh well, I'm not going to pay out the ass to some scalper. also, anytime I go to a friend's house, it's to avoid spending money.

    Cabs - $15

    Bag of green - $20

    Fifth of Vodka - $25

    A great party - priceless.

  5. you either buy your tickets from scalpers, or you've only been to the 2004 NYE and the Katrina benefit shows. $45 is steep, and certainly not the norm.

Katrina Benefit shows + tweedy benefits + the vic 2004 shows selling out in like 5 minutes... plus living in chicago 45 bucks is just the cost of doing business if you want to go out a lot of the time... i spent more going over to a friends house the other night

  6. Yknow someone tried to hotwire my car the other day but it was just sitting there with the wires hanging everywhere... maybe someone stole my car and heard wilco and was inspired to bring it back... or my crappy car didnt start... either way (pun intended)

funny side story, pulled over for expired plates the next night i had to explain why the wires were hanging out of my car and it looked ransacked... terrible experience that included a friend puking up red margarita mix everywhere. The trials of a designated driver.

  7. last year i went with this nightstand that attatches to the side of an elevated bunk thinking it was the greatest invention and that i would use it constantly... not the case.

If were going out of what got the most use, I'd say probably go for a bong... its a good investment.

-real tip for buying books though, go to froogle, search the book, and buy an affordable edition, as much doesnt usually change from year to year (i've gotten straight As using this) - the page numbers are just a little different sometimes but its easy enough to figure out.

bikes good.... and cd mailers to keep in touch w/ mixes w/ friends

i really cant stress the importance of that bong...

  8. After hanging around Millenium park all day for the decemberists the other day I cant wait for this show. I will absolutely be there, probably from the morning until they toss me out late at night. Thanks Wilco for the greatest 21st bday present I could ask for.

  9. anyone have a lead on a recording? I was there but it didnt hit the ears particularly well being distracted by rain, the crowd noise, and messing around with my friends but I would love to hear a atleast somewhat more polished version sitting at home.

  10. for some songs yes, at least thats what she said for me is way better on the live version... it captures the crowds energy well. Also it works well for songs you could have envisoned a spot for nels on in studio albums, like handshake drugs, (i actually think about that a lot, if the current lineup rerecorded certain songs how different they would be... but thats a whole different thread) but some are crisper and definitely better suited on the albums

Spiders live i feel is much more about rocking out on an amazing jam song and the album version is a very polished jam song with a lot of technical thought behind it.

  11. haha, if that's all it takes for your parents to send you to rehab, I should have been in and out 8 times according to those standards...

its been a long strange summer i think theyre looking for that one bizarre act at this point.
