  1. if art really is just a form of visual comminication... we have the sender, the message, the receiver, and feedback. so i would have to agree that art does not end at the artists intentions.

I think this answers the original thing I was making fun of. An illustrator has no intentions. What ever company they work for has an intention, the dude drawing isn't trying to communicate a damn thing. And if the person looking at it gleans some connection from it, that hasn't got anything to do with the person who illustrated the thing.

  2. I don't think a piece of art's definition/meaning/worthiness ends with the creator, though. If the illustrator finishes a project, and hates it, but someone looks at it, and forms some sort of connection to it, then it's a piece of art.

    To me, at least.

  3. I'm studying graphic design. The entire field is based on a designer doing exactly what the client wants, which could be illustrating a bug for a textbook. And that does not take away from it's artistic value. All designers are artists, but not vice versa. Textbook bug illustrator is certainly an artist.

I view the "art?" argument simply: if any one person views something as art, then it is. 'Nuff said.

I'd rather just say "prolific" alot, but the quoted post is bullshit. Illustrating ain't art and illustrators ain't artists.

  4. That kind of shameless support is the reason I both love and hate sports radio. 5 games would be a miracle, I think. Maybe 7 but Pittsburgh looks hungry. Selfishly I hope the Wings win because the parties don't end with as much swearing and fewer girls end up crying. There's still the same number of cops, but they seem friendlier while giving you the noise complaint.

  5. I never really saw Nels as a replacement for Jim. That's an interesting take. I guess I saw Jim as a consultant. Like a not-so-fatherly George Martin. A facilitator of ideas. Pat's a rock star.
