i just got one, and absolutely love it. i had a vox AD100vt, which was pretty good... but the AC15 just nudges the tone over into the realm of amazing.

anyone else have one? or an AC30?

what do you think? as in love as i am?

i guess you can disregard my comment about the vox AD100Vt... i just sold mine and put down $350 on a vox AC15. i've played it for a few hours at guitar center, and absolutely love it. its capable of beautiful, crystal-clear clean tones and really classic overdrive. The reverb and tremolo sound really natural and usable (and are switchable with the included footswitch). for a 15 watt amp, it has amazing power and volume. its only drawback is that it only has one channel, but thats a-okay with me. I will share a more informed opinion after i've had it for a while.

anyone else have one? what are your thoughts?

thankfully, what im lookin for is the the full-fuzz sound (in other words, not a huge range in gain). for my lighter OD sounds, i use an visual sound route 66 american overdrive. good to hear the treble and bass knobs work well and flexibly. often, i find that bass/treble/eq knobs on pedals seem more like decoration than usable tools.

and maybe you coulda bought the Highway One, but then it wouldnt be as YOURS as this one obviously is. good work.

although i agree that using a volume pedal isnt quite right for this application (tone loss, control difficulty, etc), i'm not sure a boost pedal is the miracle answer either. i think there are other, more subtle solutions (albeit more difficult) that might work better. i dont presume to know anything about this band, but you may want to take a look at the overall dynamic of the group, and see if anything needs changing. if nothing needs to be changed there, maybe take a look at your playing style. if yer strumming away at the electric rhythm like you were banging out something on a big ol' acoustic, try toning it down a bit. again, dont want to insult anyone here, just giving my two cents.

then again, maybe a boost is the answer heh.

the more keys the more sound! but if money really is a big issue, you could survive with 61 keys. if you can afford the 73, definitely go for it.

i have a roland 40 watt speaker and it works wonderfully.

and no, i dont think the electro II is out of your league at all. its fun for everyone, professionals and recreational musicians. im not exactly a professional either (far from it), and i enjoy mine quite a lot.

man i wish i could help... they just all look gray and boxy to me. I thought i saw a Holy Grail on there, but i could be wrong. Damn impressive, however. I am totally in love with the three volume/expression pedals controlling the delay. coolest thing EVER.

the Tower theater is a pretty good venue, ive seen Sufjan Stevens and Smashing Pumpkins there...

BUT

the 9:30 Club is my favorite venue. This will be the latest in a series of wonderful shows ive enjoyed at the 9:30, and the second Wilco show ive seen there. Life just doesnt get any better. I am so fuckin excited.

out of all of those choices, i'd definitely go with one of the gibsons. preferably the 339.

although i do have this to say:

if yer gonna go with a gibson ES guitar, go for the real deal. the 339 is basically (in my opinion) a cop out of a design. If you want to go that route, just go all the way and get a 335 or one of the full-sizes ES models. they won let you down. I have a cherry red satin-finish ES-335 reissue, and i couldnt be happier. And for me, the size of it is no problem whatsoever. Its actually lighter that my Les Paul.

the only one i have is the Electro 2. But i do have to say, it is quite incredible.

i wish come other people had responded with some suggestions (of perhaps something more of what yer lookin for), but here's my two cents anyway.

i know its not exactly what you had in mind, or perhaps the hippest amp out there, but i have a Vox ADVT-100, and i am completely enthralled by it. It does have one valve for that tube tone and response, but it has somewhere around a dozen amp models (mostly renowned vox amps), a bunch of effects (decent), and even more user programs.

it sounds great, and doesn't have the same problems as a tube, and from what i can tell from playing with tubes, it feels quite similar. Plus, it's loud as all get out.

im a sucker for Voxs, so if yer really set on a tube amp, i'd go for a classic AC30. great tone, as demonstrated by none other than Wilco (as i'm sure you know).

what do i use it for? "my band" is the most direct answer... but i guess the more philosophical answer is "to make sounds and collections of sounds that i find unique and interesting."

I'm planning on tweaking my board setup--- getting rid of some of the Bosses... get a Prescription Electronics DualTone, Fulltone Mini DejaVibe, and some other ones. Also, zvex makes some amazing pedals (Loop Junky, Fuzz probe [check em out]) that i wouldnt mind having.

personally i use a Big Muff and a Boss DS1. Both are simple and reliable, although with some of my guitars they have volume issues (being too quiet). But i like em anyway.

for overdrive, I have a Tube Screamer, which is pretty standard and good for classic-rock tones.

I also have a Visual Sound Route 66 American Overdrive, which is like my secret weapon. It's got a whole bunch of tonal options, from smooth to crunchy as hell to agressive to heavy. And it's got a Compression switch to boot.

Sorry to threadjack, but I'm looking into a Nord Electro 2 61. Have any of you had any experience with these machines, and can you make any recommendations?

I have one (i play keyboards occasionally), and the keyboardist in my band uses it.

I have to say, it's the most badass keyboard ever invented. Sure, it doenst have real drawbars and a CX-3 MIGHT sound a tiny bit more authentic, but it's not only an organ. Its electromechanical keyboard sounds are amazing: the Rhodes, Wurlitzer, etc etc.

Also, it has a bunch of cool built in effects, and an acoustic piano sample which doesnt sound as much like a grand as it does an upright (which is actually kinda refreshing in Grand sample-dominated keyboard world).

In conclusion, get one! Its a helluva lot of bang for the buck.
