  1. I occasionally go to setlistFM and put in bands and cities from my past to see if the set list is there. A couple of times there will be an opener that I have no memory of, but I just experienced the best/worst example of not remembering much about a decades old show. I looked up a Who show I saw in 1982 and marveled at what a great set it was, but no "Substitute", even though I "remembered" it being played. I noticed at the bottom that The B-52s and Joan Jett and The Blackhearts opened. I vaguely remember Joan Jett - maybe- but I would've bet money that The B-52s did not open. It gets worse. I click on The B-52s set list and it says, "Note: only played 2 songs before getting booed off the stage and people throwing objects at them". How in the hell could I not remember that? Even vaguely. Damn. I must've done more drugs that I thought. Even with time weakening the memory trace, that would be an emotional, vivid scene that should have some degree of flashbulb memory. Also, you'd think I'd have told the story over and over, keeping the engram fresh.

Anyone else have any similar lack of memories from old concerts?

  2. Not sure this is confirmation or not, but a tweet from Thursday from the Jeff Tweedy account said "Don't forget to grab your tickets for Jeff's upcoming solo tour"

    Solo tour...

I hope so. I'd totally enjoy Tweedy or some other backing band, but the 2 solo shows I saw were magical times.

  3. Logged on at 7 and bought 2 floor right row G for Tampa. Tried again immediately after to see what would come up and floor were gone! I’m happy as not only is G the 7th row, but it has a walkway behind it, so free to stand and dance without having to deal with annoying sitters complaining.

  4. Me too. Assuming everything is resolved peacefully, I wouldn't mind if this guy is moved elsewhere because he's been giving me and the family the creeps for a few years (only wears black pajama like clothing,...

    Is he VC?
  5. Thank God this thread is about Coltrane,  I should know better, but when I saw the thread title, I thought you were going to rhapsodize over "Drops of Jupiter" -- a terrible song by Train.  Carry on . . .

All I could think of was air conditioners.
  6. I definitely want to know. Seeing it in person would explode my soul.

:lol Your soul is not at risk. No collaboration. It was tough watching Richard Thompson say goodnight after 40 minutes. Before the encore, Isbell praised RT and talked about how he wouldn't be the songwriter or guitar player he is if not for listening to RT. This gave me a glimmer of hope, but no.

  7. Definitely good area to visit. Was in Victoria and Juan de Fuca Provincial Park this past summer. It was our second time in Victoria, glad to have seen more of Vancouver Island this time. Have been to Vancouver twice, but not recently.

A fine family vacation spot. Both cities have lots to offer and the ferry is fun. Vancouver, as I’m sure you know, is a “big city”, while Victoria is relatively small. Restaurants, art, parks, and hikes a are part of both. Wild places are not far from either.

In Vancouver, Granville Public Market is family fun, as is the aquarium. Who doesn’t love otters. The Classical Chinese Garden in Chinatown is beautiful and kid-friendly. My daughter loved the world’s narrowest building, which is in Chinatown. The botanical garden is gorgeous. She also liked the old clock in Gastown. Of course, the waterfront is fantastic. Lynn Canyon is a nice nature retreat and fewer people at it’s suspension bridge than at Capilano, free too and more hikes. Went to both but Lynn is better than Capilano. Lighthouse Park is also great. The Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler is a gorgeous drive.

Victoria is on our list, not at the top, for retirement in 4 years. Amazing city. Compact, walkable, beautiful. Try to eat at the Legislative dining room in the Parliament Building. No kids that trip, but they’d like it. The walk along the Inner Harbor is great. You end up where the houseboats are, some good restaurants, also. Beacon Hill Park is great for kids. Fun water feature, beach, petting zoo, and a beautiful scenic drive. The Royal Canadian British Columbia museum would be fun with kids. Lots of First Nations exhibits. If you have the time for Butchart Gardens, I recommend it.

We did a whale watching trip on a zodiac. We left from the Vancouver area, but they leave from Victoria, also. Been whale watching off Oregon, Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Iceland and Australia. All Orcas, but as far as the sheer number and how close to the boat whales were, that one ranks in the top 2.

I hope I didn’t run on too long. I’m certain others know a hell of a lot more than I. Enjoy!

  8. Could have been.  Instead, they became a pop band. Once I heard shiny happy people I was done.

Hahaha! That is laughable. If you want to say that they wrote and recorded a pop song for their 7th studio album out of 15, fine. If you think that means that they "became a pop band", you're either a hyperbole merchant looking for a reaction or you know nothing of their final 8 albums. If R.E.M. "became a pop band", that would mean that at least a majority of their songs were "pop". Please name the pop songs that followed the release of "Out of time". In my opinion, it is debatable that "Shiny Happy People" is a pop song. Even if it is, it isn't "Smooth".

If they became a "pop band", then their popularity, measured by album sales, would have increased. That was not the case. Maybe "Shiny Happy People" and "I'm Too Sexy" were twins sons of different mothers and R.E.M.'s later career mirrored Right Said Fred's with 7, 8 more albums, but never again attaining the heights of their pop masterpiece ? To say that you were done with R.E.M. after they released "Shiny Happy People" because they became a pop band, says more about you than it does R.E.M.

  9. Sad. They were a good band with some solid songs. As she was only 46, I’m interested in the cause of death.

I’m certain I have a Wilco recording, I think from an early Solid Sound, where the band plays “Dreams” in an audience “Stump the band”. Maybe John Hodgman was involved?

  10. Winston, I agree. He doesn't understand why, which he should. But that he can't admit saying what a group heard him say? Dick Durbin should have thrown fecorum out the window. "This unqualified, incompetent, shithole of a human being knows what he said. He doesn't have the conviction to admit it". Fuck getting reelected again, Dick (and every other >65 y.o. congressperson). These are unique times.

  11. Since it's getting late, if Donna can go again, so can I...

On the eleventh day of Christmas my Wilcos gave to me

    Eleven deli tray incidents

    Ten Solid Sound Festivals

    Nine Turntables sizzling

    Eight Late Greats

    Seven screams of nothing

    Six musicians playing

    Five Bull Black Novas

    Four dreamers dreaming

    Three God shaped holes

    Two intertwined IG guitars

And a blinking macrame owl onstage
