  1. It's pointless to discuss when we don't have the facts, but my points were all quite valid. Hospitals are full of first-time moms who rush to the hospital hours before they're ready. Experienced mothers aren't so antsy.

Might have been an 8 hr flight (I read 11), but according to the Anchorage Daily News it was a total of 22 hrs from the time her membrane started to rip until she got to the hospital in Wasilla. Another strange point, she wouldn't go to a hospital in Anchorage either.... she was driven back to Wasilla, to a hospital in a town of 9000 people -- without a NICU! Women in Wasilla state that when there is an at-risk pregnancy, they are rushed to Anchorage... not vice-versa.

A doctor on Daily Kos (I know...biased) wrote that if she started leaking at 4 am, it's indicative of ripped membranes and that the premie would have been born at a maximum of 12 hrs after the rip occured. This doctor is speculating that it was either a mistake and that Palin actually punctured her bladder and urine was leaking, or that she is lying because there is no way she could have held the baby for 22 hrs.

Supposedly this doctor in Wasilla is a friend of Palin's who has been given awards and assigned to important boards appointed by the Governor. The liberal conspiracy theorists are questioning why various press releases and web pages promoting this doctor that existed until very recently have now been scrubbed off the Alaska.gov sites. Though, still viewable through Google cache.

Regardless... this will fall off the news cycle with news of Juno.

  2. The rumors that Bristol was pregnant began after she got in a car accident coming out of a clinic prior to her taking the 4 month leave from high school.

The REALLY strange part.... Palin would have known her kid had DS during the first three months of her pregnancy (assuming she got prenatal care... debatable in Alaska). So, she goes to Texas to give the speech. At 4 in the morning, she starts to leak fluid. She has her day, gives her speech... and then flies 11 HOURS BACK TO ALASKA to give birth to her kid. A kid at HIGH RISK. What kind of parent, if this is all true, would do that?!??!?! If she truly was leaking amniotic fluid, and it was streaming down her leg as she has described, what kind of judgement is needed to get on a plane back to the boondocks to give birth to a premie rather than go to a hospital in Dallas?

Don't necessarily believe the teen pregnancy angle... but something stinks.

Seriously.... would you vote for someone to be responsible for all of our children when she takes risks such as these with her own?

  3. Saw $4.79 this afternoon in South Loop just east of Little Italy.

Sad part is... I heard on NPR that the economists have been studying/planning for this for years. They don't expect a negative impact (break point) to the industry (meaning, people seriously curtail their driving habits, or don't drive at all) until the price hits $6.50 (and it will). People complain about it now... but they are still driving as much as they did when it was $3.00 or less.

  4. After seeing Wicked, and learning that they've been doing that for 4 years, 6 days a week, I wonder what thats like, how they keep their enthusiasm/interest.

Then I thought about bands who tour a lot, and realized some are probably in the same situation. Wilco definetly does not seem to fit in this category, but it makes you wonder if other bands are in that state when you see them

Wicked has understudies that replace the stars at least (sometimes twice) per week. Wicked rotates the two leads (and all other actors) out annually.

I understand the other members of Wilco have rotated out, but if Tweedy was no longer in the band or took days off I don't think it would have the same effect as some off-broadway actresses in Green face paint.

  5. Nope, we're done after this second Tipitina's show. But there have been vague hints of more Total Pros in the future.....

    Max

P.S. I agree about Blood of the Lamb, Paul kicks serious clarinet ass on that one.

Are you guys still playing with PDP? Or is TPs the primary gig now?

  6. - T-shirt from 2nd Wilco show at Lounge Ax (the homemade looking one with the spinning green wheel on light blue shirt)

    - T-shirt from 3 night Golden Smog stand at Lounge Ax in 95. The blue one with the yellow cowboy.

    putting both in t-shirt frames...

  7. Y'know, I don't remember!

Shirley Simms is touring with them and she, Claudia, and Stephin mixed things up. One of the new song that Shirley sings on the album was sung by Stephin. Claudia sang All My Little Words and Water Torture.

Check out the new Chicago magazine for an interesting interview with Merritt. Talks about how he is dealing with his hearing loss in a live setting

  8. WILCO fans, for the most part, suck. Have for years now. Worst fans ever, unfortunately.

They aren't the only band whose fan-base has gone downhill as they've become more popular.

It's almost Newton's 13th law of band popularity--the more popular a band becomes, the worse their fans are.

Hold on to the memories of WILCO pre-popularity. WILCO fans were much cooler back then.

Sadly, true. The band is so great, the set last night looks amazng, and I'll still go to at least one of these shows.... but the audience is just awful. And sadly, it really started going REALLY downhill right before YHF. Maybe I'm just an old guy (Jeff's age) who misses the old days, but these shows are getting almost unbearable due the fans.

Wilco Fan Lowlights - Top 3:

    3) Buffalo Tom show 3 weeks ago.... idiots at front of stage yelling at band to start playing Wilco songs. Head shaking, eye rolling.

    2) Abbey Pub solo show ... 2 dorks get in fight in middle of floor over "Who is the bigger Wilco fan". Ends up with two people throwing full beers at each other. Kicked off when they started screaming titles of UT songs at the stage. They were about 22 yrs old and could have no way been going to UT shows in the early 90s. Pathetic.

    1) Vic Show 3 yrs ago... newbie frat boys making fun of Asian Girls, calling them "Rice Cakes". Truly scary/sad.

I love this wacky internet thing, but I miss when you didn't know what shows were coming until Lounge Ax (or you had to pore over the Reader) published their calendar around the first of every month. Then you had to go to the bar and buy tickets (xeroxed on coloured construction paper) for the shows you wanted to see.

  9. You can keep your silly opera boxes. I prefer the sweat and grime of the great unwashed in the GA pit. First row of course, to minimize any actual touching of sweat and grime that is.

Good to see they are back up! Happy to help out with a charity auction, and happy to be able to list "Wilco Tickets" as a write-off on my tax return!!!

  10. after a month of wondering how our friend passed away, her parents finally received the death certificate and medical records this week.

natalie's official cause of death was viral myocarditis, a virus triggered by the flu that she had. it basically attacks the lining of the heart. if you google the term, there is more information on the internet about viral myocarditis.

it is now clear and apparent that the hospital did not give natalie the proper care while she was there. many of us suspected this, but to have it confirmed is very painful and sad :(. her family will be looking into this further for more answers. sorry to be the bearer of sad news. :(

I believe this is what Gary Louris had a few years back that put him in the hospital.

  11. What's going on? Wilcoworld was auctioning off the opera box for each of the shows for charity. They had already auctioned off the Friday and Sat. shows and I had already put in a grand and was expecting on paying whatever for any of the shows next week. I even had friends planning on flying in if we won. Wake up this morning and get a note saying all auctions have been cancelled by eBay.

    This is total BS.

  12. There is an Orpheum Theatre in both Omaha and Sioux City. Having been to both of them numerous times, I can assure you that Omaha's is much nicer, FYI.

Let's hope to god this doesn't turn into a flame war between Omaha-ites and Sioux City-ians.

  13. Wow....I really had no idea! Awesome...

Bruce Springsteen's longtime manager Jon Landau said, "'Magic' is a high energy rock CD. It

  14. Since it was pretty much known since episode 4 that HBO cancelled JfC and shortened the season from 12 to 10 episodes.... you have to wonder if Milch mailed it in (sure seemed like it) and started to focus on this:

"HBO just cancelled David Milch's John from Cincinnati, but that hasn't stopped the two entities from working together. According to Variety, Milch's next series for the pay cable channel is already in the works.

David is creating a pilot about New York police. The story will revolve around a Vietnam Vet who returns to the U.S. in the 1970s and joins the NYPD. The series will be based on the real-life experiences of NYPD Blue executive producer, and longtime friend of Milch, Bill Clark. They are developing the program together.

Milch has described the series lead as a man who was "recruited as a soldier while he was overseas, to come back as a disaffected veteran and infiltrate the antiwar movement, as a shortcut into the New York City police force as a detective.""
