  1. just watching 'i am trying to break your heart'... check out the shot in the opening credits when his name pops up...

can you just tell us? my dvd is a good 200 miles away from me right now...

  2. he will be missed, such a great talent responsible for much of the music i love.

a shame he and jeff couldn't reconcile things.

i think the band's next show will lean heavily on tunes that he played a large role in.

  3. you guys are nuts if you think singing along at a rock concert is not okay. if I'm going to see my favorite band rock out, I'm gonna be beltin' out the words the entire time.

now, if its like a little quiet acoustic show, then that's different.

but at a rock concert, if you are anywhere near the front, you can be singing your head off and no one is really going to hear you.

  4. talents were underused on the album.

i think that's the kind of statement you could make for any of the guys besides Jeff in this band. All of them are capable of SO MUCH and they are all legit musicians in their own right who could front their own bands, write their own songs, etc. I mean, I would love to hear more of Jorgensen, Glenn and I would love it if Nels got to let loose a little moore. But, with so much talent jam packed into one band, I guess everyone isn't really going to shine on their own as much. does that make any sense?

  5. positive little bits:

    - i love those distant sounding rim-shots (or whatever they are, I'm no percussion expert) that come in at 2:19 in Solitaire

    - i love the chord change/change in direction of the whole song at 1:06 in Deeper Down. There are so many good bits in this song, I'm not going to mention them all.

    - the intro to I'll Fight is fantastic

    - i like the double tracked vocals in Solitaire.

    negative bits:

-one wing ends too abruptly- i know some of you prefer the more concise version, but that song could go on for at least another 30 seconds or minute and not be "excessive noodling." The song just keeps building and it just ends too quickly. I want to hear them play!

-Country Disappeared. The whole song. Don't like. Sorry.

-the repeating "I don't care anymore" lyrics in You Never Know gets kinda grating.

-For as much as I like the section that begins at 1:06 in Deeper Down, bring those drums up in the mix. I love what's going on there, but can hardly hear them.

  6. I am surprised by the consistent lack of love for Country Disappeared. I can't that song and melody out of my head. Anyway, I loved SBS and the lack of love for it or this song won't stop me.

Worst song on the album for me. I agree with the person who said it sounds like an SBS outtake. Also agree with the person who said it sounds like a weak version of the "Comment" song from KT.

It's just boring to me- no melody, no hooks, nothing musically interesting about it- to me.

  7. I think you're giving him WAY too much credit. Jeff has said multiple times that the band basically okay'd whatever O'Rourke did. You can have all the ideas in the world, but it doesn't matter if no one lets you actualize them.

I don't know. He had a huge hand in Ghost and played a lot on that album, basically a full time band member at that point. And knowing how he and Jeff have worked with Loose Fur, I only see it as a good thing when he is involved.

  8. I love Wilco's current lineup and think its probably the most talented group of musicians they've had together at one time. The only guy I miss is O'Rourke. I wish he still had some hand in what they did with their albums- whether it be mixing them, producing them, engineering them, or playing whatever sound he wanted.

  9. Country Disappeared and Everlasting are the best TO ME...SO FAR.

that's interesting to me, because those 2 are the worst for me (with You and I close)

but yeah, definitely better than SBS.

To me, the first four tracks are slam dunks and I love Solitaire and I'll Fight.
