If you have changed your screen name since you started on VC originally, try using the latest one rather than the original one.

Certainly a delightful evening, and what I'd call "as good as it gets" in the times we're in. Great music, VERY safe environment (at the expense of a more intimate experience, but definitely a good, appropriate trade-off), and a really emotional time for everyone. Jeff made it very clear all night that he was thrilled / grateful / relieved to be back on stage. He said right off that it was gonna be tough getting them OFF the stage, and then quipped that they were going to "play all night" before dashing all our hopes by telling that no, they really had a strict curfew there... sigh. He also indicated that they considered blowing the shofar to start the show, but just didn't want to tempt things too much. Probly for the best....
He loved being up there with the kids for sure. I think if he could have had Basil up there for a tune or two he would have been off the charts of thrilledness. He mentioned at one point that the boys we're "created by me", but then backpedaled that one quickly and later said that Susie in fact had grown them inside her!
Great seeing VC and other regular folks again.. even if it was just on the virtual sidewalk waiting to get in (and catching quite a few soundcheck tunes too!), or inside the show from a distance (or 6' apart for a quick chat). It was hard to tell who was handling Wilcrew duty up on stage with masks and distance, but Eric, Stan, and Ashley (PK) were all around and about, and it was nice seeing their familiar (yet covered) faces around again.
Jeff mentioned that he didn't think it would replace "the real thing", but I'd say it was a much needed, well done (as always), and enjoyable night... "together".

We could see a drone flying around but they never did show any shots from it on the big video screens. Were there any good angles from that?

First spin - sounds more “musical” than some of their other recent albums. Looking forward to spending some quality time with this one.

ALTWYS might be my new second favorite solo acoustic song! Love the way that turned out.

The Tweedy Show Tuesday August 25 Episode 89
-- WAP is discussed. Jeff goes on record that he wants WAP to be played at his funeral.
!
Well, now it’s official!!

Many happy returns of the day!!!

Maybe make a sign "ELECTRIC" and hold it up? Do people still do that?
Yes. Yes they / we / I do.
Less effective over IG though... sigh.
-
I'd like to see Jeff do another "electric" episode. The other electric set was one of the best shows.
I fully support this sentiment.
-
Must be that solo record he mentioned would be his next album. October release date to coincide with the new book??
Sooooo..... the record will be ONE SONG???
-
Listened to the first episodes. A pleasant experience overall. Could use a little more basset hound content tbh.

Transitioning into the "pay per view" version of this a little bit nowadays.
Andrew Bird a couple weeks ago...
Lucero last weekend...
GBV today!!
Probably Yo La Tengo this weekend
Ken Stringfellow and another round of ABird next weekend.
Cheap, entertaining, and hopefully kicks a few coins to the ones we miss a lot.

Been awhile since a Jayhawks post was added. Anyone pick up XOXO? The three cuts I have heard so far are solid.
Yep. I like it, but I really liked the last couple records as much as any of the early stuff. This one is a bit of a musical buffet, with everyone in the band doing a couple songs of their own along with some pretty good Louris tunes. I like that Gary's in a good place now and I think you can really hear it in these last few records.

Well said Isaac and thanks for sharing.
We’ll hold you accountable next summer in North Adams to find more of us irl. Just look for the hugs, that’ll be us.

Very interesting. Where do I sign up?

That was awesome! I think I need a refresher on how & when Jeff knew about you and your love for Bull Black Nova.
That would be an excellent sidewalk discussion someday! Short version is that I started bringing a big "BULL BLACK NOVA" sign to shows a few years back, and he noticed / called me out on it a time or two. Nevertheless, I persisted... and also started requesting the song at the Vic shows and the couple of living room shows that I've been fortunate enough to attend. He put 2+2 together at a LRS and it's been a "thing" ever since. Check #bullblacknova on FB - the whole sign thing has kinda developed a life of its own.

The Tweedy Show Thursday June 4 Episode 57
-- Jeff strums & sings a bit of Bull Black Nova for Vince
HOW COOL WAS THAT????
And thanks to TCP it is indeed now my ringtone.

I’m looking forward to the solo debut of You Satellite. I love it when he takes a really epic full-band song and reimagines it solo acoustic. Bull Black Nova (obviously), Diamond Light, Spiders.. to name a few... those all increase their interestingness in their solo form.
Dark Neon would be another one that intrigues me in that vein.

Gary Louris started doing “The Shit Show” twice a week (similar but not really to the Tweedy show). Wednesday’s and Sunday’s which is a nice drop in to the off lights with Jeff.

I saw this excerpt from the earnings call with the CEO of LiveNation Michael Rapino.
Rapino also discussed their strategy for reopening
“So over the next six months, we’ll be starting slow and small, focusing on the basics and testing regionally. But whether it’s in Arkansas” — which he may have mentioned because a socially distanced concert is scheduled there for May 15 — “or [another] state that is safe, secure and politically fine to proceed in, we’re going to dabble in fan-less concerts with broadcasts and reduced-capacity shows, because we can make the math work,” he continued.
“There are a lot of great artists that can sell out an arena, but they’ll do higher-end theaters or clubs. So you’re gonna see us [gradually reopening] in different countries, whether it’s Finland, Asia, Hong Kong — certain markets are farther ahead [in the recovery process]. Over the summer there will be testing happening, whether it’s fan-less concerts, which offer great broadcast opportunities and are really important for our sponsorship business; drive-in concerts, which we’re going to test and roll out and we’re having some success with; or reduced-capacity festival concerts, which could be outdoors in a theater on a large stadium floor, where there’s enough room to be safe.
“We think in the Fall, if there are no second hotspots, you’ll see markets around the world [reopening] — Europe, specifically, has talked about opening up 5,000-plus [gatherings] in September. And on the venue side, we’re dealing with federal, the White House, every government body you can imagine, and we’ve got a great task force around what we have to do with the venue to make you safe.
“So I think in the Fall you’ll see more experimenting and more shows happening in a theater setting, into some arenas. And then our goal is really to be on sale in the third and fourth quarters for 2021 at full scale.”
Seems as reasonable a plan as any.
ps - I have no idea why a Metal Injection story popped up on my FB feed other than the topic itself,

Correct !! Thanks for the catch there.Sundays off, no?

Did I hear them saying no show tonight? I thought they were moving to a M-F schedule and taking weekends off, if agreeable to the Clients? I'm not on FB so I don't know what the poll is over there.
They landed on Wed and Sat off (for now anyway). So yeah, no show tonight. Don't think they did a poll.

Save it for the press conference.I know after last night's show a lot of people are claiming I don't know the lyrics to Sunken Treasure because I typed in chat "I was saved by rock and roll" during the last verse instead of maimed/tamed/got my name. This theory that I would make such an egregious mistake is obviously not true. Of course I know the lyrics. I was just riffing and doing my own thing, I can't help it if musical improvisation comes naturally to me.
I'll have no further comment on this matter at this time, thank you.

Just today I got the email that the Andrew Bird / Calexico show in June is postponed till further notice.
So assuming the Jeff Vic shows get moved, my only actual scheduled show with a ticket is our Railbird festival in August.
Sigh.
