  1. I saw this excerpt from the earnings call with the CEO of LiveNation Michael Rapino.

    Article here https://metalinjection.net/its-just-business/live-nation-ceo-outlines-reopening-strategy-experimenting-with-shows-in-the-fall-be-on-sale-in-q3-q4-full-scale-by-2021?fbclid=IwAR2OUTl9eyBNB8VSvU6fQQ--hZTqS_Iy6AIrIkhjSVBHuFBiPuar2PNMX98

Rapino also discussed their strategy for reopening

“So over the next six months, we’ll be starting slow and small, focusing on the basics and testing regionally. But whether it’s in Arkansas” — which he may have mentioned because a socially distanced concert is scheduled there for May 15 — “or [another] state that is safe, secure and politically fine to proceed in, we’re going to dabble in fan-less concerts with broadcasts and reduced-capacity shows, because we can make the math work,” he continued.

“There are a lot of great artists that can sell out an arena, but they’ll do higher-end theaters or clubs. So you’re gonna see us [gradually reopening] in different countries, whether it’s Finland, Asia, Hong Kong — certain markets are farther ahead [in the recovery process]. Over the summer there will be testing happening, whether it’s fan-less concerts, which offer great broadcast opportunities and are really important for our sponsorship business; drive-in concerts, which we’re going to test and roll out and we’re having some success with; or reduced-capacity festival concerts, which could be outdoors in a theater on a large stadium floor, where there’s enough room to be safe.

“We think in the Fall, if there are no second hotspots, you’ll see markets around the world [reopening] — Europe, specifically, has talked about opening up 5,000-plus [gatherings] in September. And on the venue side, we’re dealing with federal, the White House, every government body you can imagine, and we’ve got a great task force around what we have to do with the venue to make you safe.

“So I think in the Fall you’ll see more experimenting and more shows happening in a theater setting, into some arenas. And then our goal is really to be on sale in the third and fourth quarters for 2021 at full scale.”

Seems as reasonable a plan as any.

ps - I have no idea why a Metal Injection story popped up on my FB feed other than the topic itself,  :frusty

  2. Did I hear them saying no show tonight? I thought they were moving to a M-F schedule and taking weekends off, if agreeable to the Clients? I'm not on FB so I don't know what the poll is over there.

They landed on Wed and Sat off (for now anyway).  So yeah, no show tonight.  Don't think they did a poll.

  3. I know after last night's show a lot of people are claiming I don't know the lyrics to Sunken Treasure because I typed in chat "I was saved by rock and roll" during the last verse instead of maimed/tamed/got my name. This theory that I would make such an egregious mistake is obviously not true. Of course I know the lyrics. I was just riffing and doing my own thing, I can't help it if musical improvisation comes naturally to me.

I'll have no further comment on this matter at this time, thank you.

Save it for the press conference.
  4. Ticketmaster isn't going to refund anyone for "postponed" shows. Based on the way our governor is talking, I'm assuming the California shows will be postponed until sometime in 2022...

I am not at all a fan of TM. But yesterday I did get a refund of the Roger Waters tix I bought several weeks ago. He rescheduled his whole tour to sometime in 2021.

  5. The Portland, OR show (night #1) is rescheduled to November 9, 2020.  New tickets were emailed to me last week.

I assume that show #2 will be on November 10th (I did not purchase tix for show #2 -- was supposed to be out of town).

The Portland show that was 3/24 (night 2) at Arlene Schnitzer is now Nov 10 at Keller.

(although the email I got with the ticket change says that it was changed from Sept 30 at Schnitzer... strange).

Haven't seen anything new on Wilcoworld for any shows yet, nor have I heard anything about the other PNW tickets.

  6. I start work from home tomorrow, and was considering all the benefits of that.

    - Riley (the family dog) curled up on the rug beside me all day

    - Eating my daily salad from an actual bowl instead of a plastic container (bonus points for a non-plastic fork!!)

    - Music from speakers instead of earbuds

    - Wayyyyy better view out my own window

    - Not having to decide in the morning what snacks I'll want that day (there will be snacks!)

    - Lack of white noise attempting to drown out the cubicle drone

    - Coats / umbrellas not needed

    - My Wilco (and others) poster walls

    - A REAL whiteboard

    - Did I mention Riley?

So, yeah, I think I'll dig it.  Will miss the ability to interact with co-workers, and some things will be more difficult to get done, but I think the environment will be pretty darn cool.  I have a really good office space at home (nearly empty nesting), and it's a very comfortable place to be.

  7. As we suspend our in-person live music outings for a bit, I thought it would be good to have a special place for the virtual gatherings we're all enjoying.

If you get the luxury of going to a REAL show, please post in the other normal thread... but maybe we could put our interwebs stuff here.

In some ways, this is a nice little bonus in that we can see some acts/bands that we normally wouldn't go see and check them out in a free / no risk kinda way.

    (Yes, I'm an optimist).

nalafej had this link for a calendar (thanks!)

The livestreams have been cool. Jambase just started a calendar.

I watched the Low Cut Connie stream last night.  He's doing more, and I highly recommend it.

But the biggest news of the day was JEFF TWEEDY IN A BATHTUB.

Yes, you heard that right.  Sue has an Instagram account called "stuff in our house" where she posts cool pics of the most random collectible items she has.  Last night she did an IG Live feed of, well, yes, Jeff in a bubble bath in their home with the kids (and dog) hanging out (not literally) and just chatting.  It was priceless.  I can't wait for the bbop review!!! And I think there's more to come on that, so you just might want to check out IG for that (or sign up if you're still anti social media - trust me it's worth it).

Cheers kids!! See ya @ the show.

(see what I did there?  "@" is an internet thing but "see you at the show" is something we used to say when we could actually GO to shows, so I substituted the "@" for the .... aw, what the hell, you get it).

  8. after trying for over 2 weeks, i'm finally getting tested today. i pointed out that it would seem logical to test at risk people with some of the symptoms. the testing situation in seattle is still dire.

Congrats (I think?).  I'm sure it's a relief to be getting some answers.  Hang in there and let us know how it turns out.

  9. I decided on 2 lawn tickets for ATL. I was very pleasantly surprised they were $27.50 each, plus fees. The final price? $112.50. No.

    Oh, and fuck you.

Nashville GA pit was 2x what Asheville GA was once the fees kicked in. 2X!!!
