If someone offered me 25 million dollars year I would turn it down because it would cheapen the integrity of the game. Definetly.
yeah im sure you would, i bet youd also give back your ticket if you won the lottery...give me a break
-

Excessive drinking has inspired a lot better music than excessive pot smoking.
Long live 3/17.
why dont u ask the Beatles about that one, im sure theyd tell you the exact opposite. They were well known for smokin pot in the studio. (unless youre talkin about hill billy country music about drinkin wisky, but thats not better music in my opinion)
also, even tho 420 is over i have to say im surprised at all the nay sayers about this day. I mean even though most of you are probably older now and have long stopped smoking, im pretty sure many of you have smoked a lot before. So if ur not gonna smoke cuz your "older and wiser" now thats perfectly fine, but you dont have to be a downer about it.
Let us burn one
From end to end
And pass it over
To me my friend
Burn it long, well burn it slow
To light me up before I go
If you dont like my fire
Then dont come around
Cause Im gonna burn one down
Yes Im gonna burn one down
My choice is what I choose to do
And if Im causing no harm
It shouldnt bother you
Your choice is who you choose to be
And if your causin no harm
Then youre alright with me
If you dont like my fire
Then dont come around
Cause Im gonna burn one down
Yes Im gonna burn one down
Herb the gift from the earth
And whats from the earth
Is of the greatest worth
So before you knock it try it first
Youll see its a blessing
And not a curse

For the love of man
Who could understand
What goes on
What is right and what is wrong
Why the angels cry
And the heaven's sigh
When a child is born to live
But not like you and I.
Let the angels ring the bells
In the holy hall
May they hear the voice
That calls to them
For the love of man
Who will understand
It's alright
I know it's alright.
Down the dusty road
To the forest church
Let wander there
Let me wonder why
On the ocean wave
In the billowing sky
Let wander there
Let me wonder why.
Let the angels ring the bells
In the holy hall
Let them hear the voice that calls.
For the love of man
Who will understand
It's alright
But I wonder why.
I wonder why.
I wonder why.

I thought I read that Tweedy played YAMF at the Vic show.
yeah tweedy played You Are My Face on 04/06/07 last friday....he mentioned it was the first time hes played it in front of an audience. I think it will soon be a favorite for his solo shows, his voice seemed so strong and reminded me of sunken treasure a little bit where his voice just sounds so emotionally powerful.
-
It sounded similar to the version from the AGIB demos that is found on the Wilco Book cd (without the other instruments, of course). Jeff said it himself before playing it, that its the only arrangement of this song that he can remember how to play on an acoustic guitar.
whoops...YouAreMYface beat me to it!
lol yeah, i didnt know it was on the Wilco Book cd tho. I remember at the solo show Jeff played at foellinger auditorium around halloween last year at university of illinois-urbana tons of people were yelling for him to play Hummingbird for his encore and he said he didnt know how to play it, glad he "remembered" for this show.
p.s. Thanks Col. Leslie for requesting You Are My Face.....it was the highlight of the night for me

"Hummingbird"
How did this sound solo? I wished he had played it on his last solo tour...
Can't wait for the recording to turn up... Sounds like an awesome show!!
it was the version from the A Ghost is Born Demos....as jeff emphasized before he played it (had to be there). But it sounded awesome!

I'll let you know pretty soon. I have a lot of design work I put off for a month to do the posters that I have to catch up with, then I'll get it figured out. Hopefully Wed or Thursday.
i didnt even plan on getting a poster, but when i saw it at the show it was so awesome i had to buy one. Nice work

Where I certainly appreciate all the die hards on this site and at the show last night, I am underwhelmed by the "gentleman's club" attitudes that seem to persist. I go to a Jeff Tweedy / Wilco show to have an enjoyable night, not to see how many rare/random songs he can play. And being that last night was a request show, and that the majority of people who stood in line all day are the die hards, I felt the show had too many "lets make him play a song that only 10 of us will enjoy" moments. (even though I am among those 10) Almost every song Jeff plays solo sounds different than on the albums. The AGIB trio of Hell is Chrome, Hummingbird, and Less than you think were amazing and different. I would have been fine with him just going through his mainstream catalog (aka the studio albums) and giving us different and interesting renditions. The sense of entitlement that "I am the biggest Wilco fan and I need to hear him play a YHF demo song" is a little bothersome. If you pay crazy money to have him play in your living room than you can request anything you want. But despite Jeff saying how he felt this should be just like a big living room show, it was not. It was a large venue with a lot of different types of fans.
I love all Wilco fans, but I guess I am just a little turned off by people thinking they are only cool, if they request a song that most normal fans do not know.
I understand what youre saying. I am a fairly recent Wilco fan by the standards of people on this board. Ive been a fan for about 2-3 years now, but i do consider myself quite a dedicated fan none the less. I have all the cds and have listened to them countless times. My girlfriend even jokes that Jeff Tweedy is my "lover" because im so obsessed with his tunes. That being said there were many songs that i did not know that he played during the show. Probably because i am younger than the majority of the people i saw at the show so i dont have a long history of hearing these songs. I still thought the show was absolutely amazing. I enjoyed hearing some new songs but i do agree that i wish they had played more better known songs. This was my second time seeing Jeff solo. I would have liked to hear California Stars or Henry and the H Bombs, but i didnt mind IATTBYH and theologians being left off for a change. I really enjoyed The Good Part which was one of the songs i hadnt heard much of. This show was a good mix of older stuff and enough to satisfy the newer fans as well. I think Jeff did the best he could in that aspect. I cant complain with anything that was played, just wish he threw cali stars in there since ive never heard them play it.

I too was at this amazing show. Just wish i got a request in, but cant complain about the set list. The highlight for me was:
You Are My Face - jeff said it was the first time he played this song in public and it was probably the best song all night. Jeff's voice sounded really strong and the guitar was amazing.
Other highlights were Pot Kettle Black, the good part, Hell is Crome, jesus, etc, and of course Acuff-Rose off mic was unbelievable.

wow i was just looking at this thread and thinking ive never seen those commercials. I wasnt quite sure how i would feel if i saw one. Two seconds later, BAM the VW commercial comes on with a highly recognizable Wilco riff. It was my favorite song from the new album YOU ARE MY FACE on a freakin car commercial. I know that the band wants to get their music to as many people as possible, but this isnt the way to do it. i bet non fans have no idea who plays that song. Yeah i guess it could make some people interested, but so would playing a free show (at..oh lets say millenium park) or something along those lines. I think Jeff summed everything up in the commercial "i have no idea how this happened, all of my maps have been overthrown"
