  1. A friend of mine tried to pick up tickets Saturday morning and got denied. He called me at 9:30 and asked me if I wanted to go. I thought, hell, why not? Then I went and looked at the full lineup and got really excited. He then calls me at 10:20 to tell me tickets are sold out and that they're already going for $200+ on Stub hub, talk about a buzzkill. :frusty

yeah, a pair of general admission tickets went on ebay for 470 bucks today :omg....outrageous

  2. i think the original argument made some good points. The main one being that Wilco has some trouble ending songs. This i agree with. I have thought this myself many times, there are times when it seems they are just making noise for the sake of making noise and thats supposed to be the end of the song. I know that some songs are fine ending that way, but i also get the feeling when listening to some songs that theres excessive or unnecessary noise and the songs would be a lot better without it. That original post makes you question the band and i like that, it seems almost like a challenge to prove it wrong. BUt many of the points are valid, the thing i dont understand is that did all of this just come one day to him as he was listening?? Does Wilco become mundane after countless listens and ultimately reveal itself to him as boring?? i guess its different for every person, but i dont see myself growing tired of Wilco. I do think the sound sometimes can be...i guess you could say 'annoying' at times. (for example at the end of handshake drugs theres sort of a high pitched noisey sound that i find annoying). I think that its just a way to end the song. It seems to me more of a distraction from the song than contributing to it. I know some might say that this 'gratuitous pounding' (as tweedy calls it) actually has a strong significance and yada yada it symbolizes so and so, but i think that is analyzing it way too much and sometimes noise is just noise.

  4. Dude, I'm not saying I like Linkin Park. I'm not down with the whole distorted screaming chorus with soft clean tone verses. I think they are terrible. I'm just getting a point across that it sucks because they have way more fans and will definitely debut at #1. Just look at the numbers from Riaa.com

Linkin Park -- Hybrid Theory -- 10 Million Sold

Linkin Park -- Meteora -- 4 Million Sold

I would love it if Wilco were to top them, but it aint happenin people.

i didnt say you said u liked linkin park, i was just pointing out that its pathetic that linkin park probably will outsell SBS. I have to admit i used to listen to linkin park when hybrid theory came out, but i no longer listen to them and havent in a long time. Hopefully SBS is in the top 3.

  5. sweet joni is a sweet song :monkey

but someone else mentioned ordinary people... that song rocks so hard it is one of my favorite neil songs ever written :worship

Also have you all heard the 16 minute acoustic version of change your mind? it is very cool :thumbup

id like the hear that 16 minute acoustic version if anyone has it

  6. It means cotton candy in England too (well, cotton candy means candyfloss). It's also what it means in Sugar Mountain. In the Wilco song it's all about a relationship, so it's a metaphor, but still in reference to the fairground food. What does it mean to you?

Well to me in the Wilco song Candyfloss is the metaphor for this girl that is attractive and he is with her but theres a lot of ups and down and he sort of wins her over by the end of the song....at least thats wut i understood from it. In Sugar Mountain i guess its just cotton candy cuz hes talkin about the fair, since neil is canadian this makes sense.

  7. Depends on where you are in the world.

is that a word you use a lot in Iowa or sumthin? I live in Chicago and have my whole life and ive never heard anyone say candy floss, except in 2 songs. Interesting that it means cotton candy to canadians, i never knew that

...also i think i need to pick up On the Beach next, hopefully i can get into it as it seems like it takes some dedicated listening

  8. its all good, it just came off as you making me seem stupid for asking that question and i thought it was legitimate....thats all. But i do understand what your saying that it probably doesnt have much to do with it, never kno though candy floss isnt a term thrown around too often. I did come off as defensive but i assure you i am quite mellow :mellow as this face indicated

  9. lol i guess its fitting im now 'Misunderstood' after that 100th post...but i just thought it was a rude reply to an honest questions, i read the pulling your tail line but that doesnt take away from the original comment. Maybe it didnt mean the same thing as the Neil Young song, but i cant help but think maybe Tweedy picked up those words from this song.

  10. Its so NOISY at the FAIR

But all your FRIENDS are there

And the candy floss you had

And your MOTHER and your DAD

Yeah, plus the tv show Friends; my mother and dad; and the concept of noise all came from here too. Am I being unFAIR [sic]? :monkey

(sorry, just pulling your tail. i really doubt that this song has anything to do with the wilco song, and instead has a lot more to do with images which evoke the fairground)

your a complete douche bag....countless songs have noise, friends and mother and dad in the song. To date ive only heard 2 songs with the words Candy Floss in them. WHy then is it not logical to think they might have had something to do with one another?? I'm sure young was an influence on Tweedy, so why do u have to be an ass about it? :realmad

  11. i was just listening to Sugar Mountain and couldnt help but hear the lyrics.....

Its so noisy at the fair

But all your friends are there

And the CANDY FLOSS you had

And your mother and your dad

......and i assumed thats where the Wilco song Candy Floss comes from, is this true?

  12. Got mine as me and the Mrs. decided to make a whole trip of it: we see Jeff Friday night, go visit some family over the weekend, then back to The Vic Tuesday for Son Volt.

Since Jeff's is a charity show, would these tickets be tax deductible? Hmmm....

i was thinking the same thing, does it depend on the charity whether theyre deductible or not?
