  1. I actually have not watched it yet.

Yeah it is a good representation of the band in their current form, although I do miss Stan Lynch on the drums. Surprise choice for the Super Bowl, it seems like they usually go for more mainstream bands or solo artists ie U2, Janet Jackson etc, but nice to see T.P. get some much deserved airtime.

  2. Since there are some fellow Centro-matic fans here, I thought I'd share these recent posts from Mark Hedman on the C-m message board regarind the upcoming C-m/SSG double CD. I haven't been this excited about an upcoming CD in years.

The album was turned in to be mastered and sequenced last week and is hopefully en route to manufacturing. Matt really worked his butt off with these two disks in trying to get them ready before 2008, as we narrowed the 30 tracks down to 23 (11 Centro-matic and 12 South San Gabriel).

Artwork is still being finalized, but I can tell you that Alchemia contributed some fantastic work for the South San Gabriel side of things. She was a saint in putting up with our disorderly requests.

I believe April 8th is the worldwide release date, but Misra will be putting out 1000 limited edition copies in special packaging at an earlier date.

Will is playing solo dates in February. We should have some Texas area shows confirmed soon, including Centro-matic at the Misra showcase at SXSW. Rumor is that we'll be in Spain in April to kick off the Dual Hawks touring. Probably some other European dates to follow in April, then US touring through summer and fall.

    So there.Mark Hedman

BTW- "Cracking of the Seal" didn't end up on Dual Hawks after all. We found ourselves once again in a Fort Recovery/ Operation Motorcide situation. We all really love that song (and this particular recording of it), but we had some tracks on both sides that had to be cut in order to keep the line of demarcation clear/ maintain the mood of the disk.

I'm sure all the tracks will be released in some form eventually.

Oh, and I guess I should mention that we are going to price the double CD as a single CD. Why make people who actually pay for music suffer? That's how we see it.

Thank you for the update, since October when this thread was started they have fast become one of my favorites. Looking foward to seeeing them live.

  3. wow. i went to the spokane show. wow. wow. sorry. that was just... wow. i can't believe how lucky i am to have been to that show. mellow my mind on the banjo, no one seems to know, a man needs a maid.. it's like the '76 tour all over again, except now i'm alive to experience it... i wasn't born until '82, so.... yes. wow. what a concert. ambulance blues. sad movies. everything. BETTER than the '76 setlists actually. and that's just the acoustic set. i wrote a long review on the rust list. this spokane show was the only one i could make, due to my mon-fri work schedule. but i wish i could go to more. it was amazing. i live in edmonton. the drive was 1000 miles each way. that is no exaggeration. we resest the odometer in edmonton, drove it all the way to spokane and back in one weekend, and when we pulled into the driveway in edmonton on sunday night, it said 2000.5. about 16 hrs each way. we *did* take the long way to stay on a divided highway over those mountains.. played it safe. the concert was perfect. it was more than worth it. not to mention the scenery in montana!!!

Glad you had a good time, you are a true fan.

  4. If you study some of the songs on Tracks, you will see that he often uses parts of unreleased songs in other songs. No big deal there. And I believe that Litte Steven has often commented that Bruce always has one or two half albums of material ready to go. There is probably a board or site out there where someone has posted about the origins of the songs - or there will be such a post eventually. I could be wrong - maybe he wrote them all just for that record.

No you are right, he does use thoughts and words from unreleased songs that do show up on released songs later on, which is ok.

I don't like the production on this one at all. Too much wall-of-sound, with no dynamics, and way too much studio processing and poor mixing.

You are so right, what could have been great is just ok because of the horrible mix. There is no excuse for this mush, greatly dissapointed, makes darkness seem crystal clear and that was 78.

  6. steve earle mix of his chick songs:

    Fearless Heart

    I Can Wait

You're Still Standing There (With Lucinda Williams)

    Poison Lovers

    Sparkle And Shine

    Lonelier Than This

Promise You Anything (great, great song)

    Goodbye

    When I Fall

    More Than I Can Do

    I Remember You

I Don't Want To Lose You Yet

    Come Home To Me

    Tremendous!!!!!!

  7. Man Man is a band from Philadelphia. And just sometimes, Wikipedia is reliable. I highly recommend Six Demon Bag, which definitely made top 3 of my 2006 list. But what the hell do I know about music?

Also, NPR has a stream of one of their live shows.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Hey if you enjoy them, that is all that counts

  8. This one goes out to all the nay-sayers.

    "What Light"

If you feel like singing a song

And you want other people to sing along

    Just sing what you feel

Don't let anyone say it's wrong

And if you're trying to paint a picture

But you're not sure which colors belong

    Just paint what you see

Don't let anyone say it's wrong

And if you're strung out like a kite

Or stung awake in the night

    It's alright to be frightened

When there's a light (what light)

    There's a light (one light)

    There's a light (white light)

    Inside of you

If you think you might need somebody

To pick you up when you drag

    Don't loose sight of yourself

Don't let anyone change your bag

And if the whole world's singing your songs

And all of your paintings have been hung

Just remember what was yours is everyone's from now on

And that's not wrong or right

But you can struggle with it all you like

    You'll only get uptight

Because there's a light (what light)

    There's a light (one light)

    There's a light (white light)

    There's a light (what light)

    There's a light (one light)

    There's a light (white light)

    There's a light (what light)

    There's a light (one light)

    There's a light (white light)

    There's a light (what light)

    There's a light (one light)

    There's a light (white light)

    Inside of you

Great post, it does infer what Jeff was thinking and I am sure he felt strong about the message and the music on SBS, the problem for me is not the lyrical content it is the way it was delivered.

  9. I like the record ok but there are some songs on it that make me cringe. There is nothing as lyrically brilliant as many past songs that Jeff has written on this record. I hope I'm wrong, but I think Jeff (like just about everybody else in rock and roll) is past his prime. Theres nothing wrong with this and I really hope I'm wrong but this happens to everyone.

I do not think for one minute that the next Wilco album, will not be a return to form. Tweedy and company are just to talented, almost every band has one stinker and this was theirs.

  10. >I agree...everyone's entitled to not like it, but it's a bit ignorant to come on a Wilco forum and condescend on people like that. "Go play your Eagles >too" isn't a valid criticism, imho. SBS deserves a bit more thought, even if you don't happen to like it.

it's simple enough. those that don't like SBS simply don't know anything about music. :no

    -justin

ps: does anybody find the "jerkit" smiley to be vaguely disturbing on a coupla different levels?

No people who do not like SBS expect more out of the band that is so talented than releasing a MOR snoozer.

  11. i love it with all my heart as well and have from the very first. i'm pretty sure it's my favorite Wilco album.

    -justin

I am sure it is the Wilco album that puts me to sleep when I do not want to, which equals MOR, which equals boring, which equals find another Wilco album fast. Your favorite, go back and listen to Summerteeth and tell me why it is still your favorite.

  12. Definitely go see The National. I'm sure Wilco will be back about 2-3 times during the next year and a half promoting this album and presumably playing the same setlist (ducks).

Plus, there's a greater chance that the Wilco show will be available for download than The National show.

Don't worry about it, the show you miss by Wilco will be the same next time they come around as they do not vary on a particuler tour, you may not get to see the National again this tour so go with them.

  13. Wilco does what they want. I think it's great just to be able to see them. Sure, it would be great to see more variety, but they aren't going to change their sets just 'cause some highy messed up freak on VC wants them to.

I am far from messed a freak, all I ask for is for Wilco to harness all of their talent and be a bit more creative ie a acoustic version of a familar song they play mostly the same night after night, inserting surprise songs more often, more well chosen covers etc. They are cheating themselves and the fans by not going the extra mile. This is what makes memorable concert experiences.

  14. There have been several incredibly unbelievable good records this decade... 10 New Songs (Leonard Cohen), Modern Times (Bob Dylan), definitely YHF... probably AGIB. All will go down as classics. But I think Sky Blue Sky tops them all, so far. Mesmerizing.

You have got to be kidding, this decade!
