no, those are the 'other' Wilco fans that aren't moved to stand and show their appreciation/excitement for the band
My issue was with a stander, but I was in the second row, so there was no one sitting at any point in the concert. This guy was just an oaf and wasn't paying attention to where he was flailing, so I traded with my wife because I pretty much expect to get flailed upon at a concert, lol...

I've got the record in the mail, but could someone shoot me a PM, too? I'd love to hear it!
Thanks in advance!

I'm pleased that a Cincinnati audience could give the band the kind of response that (I hope) will bring them back again and again, but this 11:00 curfew (if that is indeed true, and I can confirm it tomorrow) sucks big time.
Is that what happened? I saw the roadie come out of stage right and whisper to Jeff that I'm a Wheel was going to have to be the last song and wondered WTF was up. They looked like they were ready to go for another five songs, then an abrupt stop.
but "Sonny Feeling" sent me running for a pee break. (And sent my wife running for vodka refills.)
I'm glad I wasn't the only person who felt this way. I knew the crowd must not have been into it after the "you'll like it next year" crack.

I didn't take a great camera with me, just my iPhone... so I'm not going to bore you with my pics, but I had a great time. I just now got the hearing back in my left ear because I was sitting right under Nels by the left side amps... ouch.
I almost had a douchebag incident as well, but I switched places with my wife so things didn't get out of hand. It's funny how sitting in the second row, I was still surrounded by A-holes and people who didn't seem like Wilco fans.

Does anyone else hear a Steely Dan guitar break in BBN? I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way (love The Dan personally), but there's a point in the song that wouldn't sound out of place on Aja.
I'm a big Dan fan, too... I've been hearing twinges of Steely Dan in Wilco since AGIB and the Loose Fur stuff. I def. agree that BBN has that quality. Ever notice how much Hate it Here sounds a lot like Bad Sneakers and Any Major Dude...?

After hearing a few of the new tracks live for the first time, I'm developing a new respect for the songs. Bull Black Nova and You Never Know are actually very different live than in the studio and in a very good way. Wilco the Song is pretty straightforward and sounds about the same live and on WTA.
...Sunny feeling, I felt, was just as bland and annoying live as it was on the record. Jeff even made a sarcastic crack about the song, saying we'll love the song when they come back and play it next year.

Your loss, Heartless Bastards are great....
They weren't so bad. I caught the second half of their opening act... but wilco blew my brains out. I was standing about 10 feet from Nels and watching his eyes go white during the Impossible Germany solo. OMG that concert was great.

I've been studying up on the opening act and I am extremely not interested in seeing them... does anyone know when Wilco will actually be on stage?

I've been watching Archives Vol. 1 on blu-ray the past few nights with my son's PS3 and an HDTV. Don't have surround sound but what is coming through the TV speakers is pretty damn good. I watched the CSNY portions to see what video clips were included and was not disappointed. Film footage of several Neil songs from the Fillmore East shows is pretty cool. The film is a little grainy even on HD, but overall it is a masterpiece. Can't wait for the Wilco Archives to come out. Are you out there Jeff?
I purchased the archives on CD for now, and I'm loving the set... def. worth the money. I'm going to invest in the Blu-Ray eventually, but I'm waiting on the tech for a while.

I'm going to be at the show, too, but my wife and I are celebrating our anniversary, so we're hitting up a little French bistro down the street before the show.
EDIT: BTW I have two extra tickets, Loge Front B142 and B143 if anyone still needs tickets.

I just watched the DVD Project Volume of bonus clips from the website, and really enjoyed seeing some of the happier times of Jay working with the group during YHF. There's a great scene of Bennett hamming it up for the camera at his keyboard station: "notice I'm playing both the black keys and the white keys at the same time, a lot of guys just play either the blacks or the whites, I'm one of the first to switch it up."
--Mike
Just curious, to which DVD project are you referring?

What is beautiful about Ohio? I don't know if I could think of a more boring state.
Well, you don't live here for one thing...
-
Anyway, there's nothing more "Dad Rock" than playing pricey "intimate" shows at the expense of making it impossible for the under-$100K crowd see your band in other cities. Thanks Jeff. Thanks High Road.
I'd like to take this opportunity to cordially invite you to move to Ohio. We had a recent Wilco concert in Athens and one in Cincinnati very shortly. The state is beautiful and cost of living is probably half of what you pay.
(Oh and if you have any cheap Ohio cracks, I think we'll know who the real snob is.

Nice TV piece......A question.....At the end of the Austin City Limits tv show from 1999, Jay is playing a white Fender Telecaster. As they are leaving the stage he proudly points to the autograph on the body of the guitar in black marker as Jeff is embracing him. Does anyone know whose autograph that is?
OMG, I've been wondering this for quite some time, and I didn't think about asking here for some reason. I can't get a good look at it from my recording because the quality isn't great.

Mader's is a German restaurant. Milwaukee is a German city. Don don donnnn.
Many conservatives probably consider Wilco to be a Nazi group, too.

Only problem with that theory is Jeff has been puking due to migraines since he was a kid. Read this for a better insight:

Thanks for that link that does add a lot of insight. I feel bad now that I made assumptions, but he did look pretty messed up.

Unrelated: Am I the only person in the world who made ZERO connection between Jeff puking and the mixing scene in IATTBYH? I never thought it was, "Jeff puked because Jay is a tool," I always just read it as, "Mixing's a bitch, and so am I!" Just a general bad-day-at-the-studio vibe and not a "this is what the relationship is doing to me!" thing.
Maybe it's me, but it seemed that the first interview they do with him at the deli he's pretty coherent, then they (Jay and the band) talk about Jeff being on his way back to the studio to check their progress, then they cut to Jeff looking high as a kite roaming the streets of Chicago. I kind of always pieced together that while he was out for lunch he had a little something something and then walked back to the studio and it caught up with him. You obviously can't say this for sure since that movie is full of all sorts of crazy editing and time incongruities, but I saw the puking as a symptom of something else he was doing.

I can't see how anybody wouldn't like this song.
I can definitely see why someone wouldn't like this song, especially if they have a problem with repetition.
I do however like the song. It kind of seems to me to be a "War on War" meets "When the Roses Bloom Again." You have the sort of war chant opening mixed with a narrative about dying and sacrifice. I also hear some slight echos of The Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth." It's a deceptively complex tune.
-
can you explain?
I think they're talking about how all the band members' names appear in the credits and Jay's name is listed last and it appears to be glowing because the sun is behind it. So his name is glowing in the sky.
-
This is what I was getting at. Jeff did a lot of Bush bashing the past eight years, I just thought it was weird fo him to write a war song while alluding to jesus.
I think the imagery was pretty obvious: a conscript is like Jesus, yadda yadda... but I'm guessing he was coming at this from the perspective of the kind of person who'd join the military and say, "I'll fight" and then he goes through the reasons.
I don't think it's a stretch to say there are people who join the military for religious sacrifice, but I dunno. This is an interesting line that completely turned me off at first, but I think there's more to it than bible babble.

I found a great picture stream from Wilco's 7/4/01 show..which was Jay's last with Wilco. I think linking this photo stream is a good tribute to Jay!

Thanks for sharing that, those are some great pics.

First thing that I hear is Panthers. This is an amazing track, and I'm glad they decided to release it on vinyl. Can't wait to give it a spin on the turntable.
