I argued against there being a contradiction. bob appeared to be incredulous that others viewed Jessica Simpson as anything less than beautiful, my point was simply this: After a lifetime of viewing the Barbie aesthetic, having it sort of forced down my throat through movies, videos, advertisements, etc, I find Simpson and her ilk, well, sort of generic, bland and boring, desensitized to it, that particular look. And thus, less attracted to it or titillated by it, that look. And that others may be sort of feeling the same way, sort of burnt out and fatigued.

It would make more sense if you read the book and would perhaps help clear up what appears to be a contradiction. Short of a thorough review, perhaps this will shed some light. Might I recommend The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf as a first step on your road towards a greater understanding? Which is not to say I am of the opinion that folks who are attracted to the Barbie doll-type are, in any way, less intelligent, but, I do feel your question is maybe a loaded one.
