  1. Though I agree the democrats are guilty of the same sorts of ad hominem attacks, you almost sort of have to admit the righter wing of the republican party has taken smearing, name calling, red baiting, etc to a whole new level
  2. I love how the regular consortium of politicized-actor bashers within the right wing is completely silent when a republican actor not only voices their opinion, but actually runs for office. Where

  5. You have to love the way in which he delivers these sorts of pronouncements, as if everyone else is, intelligence-wise, on a much lower plane than himself.
  6. And therein lies much of the problem with politics nowadays, the democrats and the republicans vote according to party lines, what is good for the party first, in place of what is good for the country. However, if you believe only one party plays that game, well, I really do feel as though you are sadly mistaken. Aside from our standing/reputation in the world, and the laws and policies put in place as a direct result of 9/11, the Patriot Act for example, laws and policies that would not have otherwise passed or perhaps even been conceived of, how drastically different is our government at
  7. What disturbs me, is how the frontrunners within the democrat pool of candidates were pretty much chosen, by the media, a good year or so ago, before we, the voters, had any say in the matter. The media had pretty much whittled it down to a race between Obama and Hillary, at the expense of the other candidates, most of whom, tend to have some good ideas. And, a result, much of the actual choosing, was, I think, already chosen for us. Because lets face it, the American public can be pretty damn complacent, sort of go with the flow-ish and easily influenced and/or swayed in situations such a
  8. Given what you've stated here, I think Biden was your man, well, if we are to pick from the current crop of democrats, not counting their spouses. I'm amazed he was never taken seriously as a candidate given his vast experience. But, like you said, folks are looking for change first, and experience second or third or....
  9. Please tell me that post was intended as a joke
  10. Interesting, you might think otherwise if you were familiar with his strict religious upbringing. In fact, it could be argued that biologists, of all people, do have a greater understanding of the inner workings of the mind, and in fact do. Which, is why most biologists tend to be atheists or agnostics. Which that said, Wilson described himself as an agnostic, not an atheist, meaning, he is open to other possibilities, but, from a scientific standpoint, sees little to no evidence to suggest there is an afterlife
  11. Ones physical, geographical proximity to the White House, has, in my opinion, very little to do with ones understanding of how Washington works. If you truly believe the republicans and the republicans alone are responsible for the state we are in, well, might I suggest you have allowed yourself to become thoroughly deluded by partisan politics, the democratic party to be exact? Please, do not take that as a personal attack, I just don
  12. With all due respect, that is absurd. To suggest only one party is responsible for the mess we are in, when both parties cater to, and are corrupted by the same corporate interests, is an act of intellectual dishonesty or a willful act of self delusion.
  13. Well said, Matt. Things are, I think, broken to the point at which it will take a tremendous amount of courage, sacrifice, on a scale both large and small, and tremendous political will, from politicians, big business and our fellow citizens before any sort of meaningful, honest change comes about. How we go about doing that, well, that is the difficult part. I don
  14. Agreed - this is terrible and tragic news - my thoughts go out to her friends and family - really too sad : (
  15. Ok and so but I bet you had the scene in which the now retired, punchier, sort of broke, Rocky (which, we now know was not really retired, as in capital
  16. Ok and so but the following video reminds me of that scene in Rocky IV, the scene in which Rocky, after having had just about enough thanks, throws a wild left or right, catches Drago under the eye, cutting him -- and how, for the first time in the movie, you sort of view Drago as not a machine, but a man - human. And how like, you sort of feel bad for him, Drago, in that very brief moment before Rocky goes all Rocky on his ass, and your recollection that, wait just a second, this is the same mo

  18. What follows is, I think (and I apologize for its length), a wonderful example of how we should be speaking with each other, blue and red or purple or however you choose to define the growing divide in this country
  19. Or, from The Onion: Well, damn, man, it's pretty soon gonna be president election time again, and that means we gotta start thinkin' about who's gonna be the one we want to be president. That's some important stuff, who's president, because whoever's president will be in charge of the whole dang shootin' match. And, if y'all are like me, you know America's president needs to be the kind of old boy who, in the first place, kicks him some damn ass, and in the second place, don't listen to all that bitchin' about how he shouldn't be kickin' so much ass. And, if you ain't like me, guess what? My
