  1. Okay, I couldn't take my eyes off her in Elf (still can't when she's on the screen) and that interview only added to that feeling of attraction I get seeing/hearing her.

The album is wonderful and I have been unable to get "This Is Not A Test" out of my head for more than 15 minutes at a time the past week.

  2. As a fan since late '99, I thought my list would include most older tunes, but in the grand scheme of things my mix still seems to revolve around newer stuff:

    Airline To Heaven

    You Are My Face

    Outtasite (Outtamind)

    Muzzle Of Bees

    War On War

    Jesus, etc.

    Impossible Germany

    Monday

I'm The Man Who Loves You

    Pot Kettle Black

    I'm Always In Love

    The Thanks I Get

    Box Full Of Letters

    One By One

    Hesitating Beauty

    Side With The Seeds

    Hummingbird

    Via Chicago*

    Shot In The Arm*

    Kicking Television*

    * - All taken from "Kicking Television" and sorta spliced together.

  3. I like YLT but all of their albums just seem to go on for a bit too long. Most of the epic long tracks get long-winded or highly repetitive.

IMO I Am Not Afraid Of You is the best I've heard yet (I have everything from "I Can Hear The Heart..." onwards) and it still could be trimmed back and tracked differently.

  4. Vampire Weekend - "Vampire Weekend"

    Marah - "Angels Of Destruction!"

    The Whigs - "Mission Control"

Stephen Malkmus - "Real Emotional Trash"

    MGMT - "Oracular Spectacular"

Black Keys - "Attack & Release"

Bon Iver - "For Emma, Forever Ago"

She & Him - "Volume One"

    Chris Walla - "Field Manual"

    Nada Surf - "Lucky"

That's in order at the moment but I can see Bon Iver and She & Him moving up the more I listen and Walla falling off the more albums I get.

  5. The 16 that come immediately to mind:

    Hendrix

    Jerry Garcia

    Page

    Clapton

    Jeff Beck

    George Harrison

    SRV

    Nels Cline

    Tom Verlaine

    Keef Richards

    Jack White

    Gary Louris (old Jayhawks mostly)

    Mike Campbell (da Heartbreakers)

    John Dieterich (Deerhoof)

    Andy Summers

    Frampton

This is totally based on their skill set, not songwriting ability. If songwriting was in there, this list would be much different.

  6. I really do despise these festivals and, sadly, each summer Wilco turns into a festival band. I guess I shouldn't complain because, for the rest of the year, they're the best mid-sized venue band anyone could ask for.

I've never gotten hyped up about hundred dollar tickets to see a concert with 50K of your closest friends. It just doesn't do it for me. That and the retarded time slots. :stunned

  7. I'm pushing for Via Chicago. She's not really goin' for it...

Seriously though I do suggest it as a joke and it gets a major roll of the eyes to which I of course have to (poorly) sing the first few lines.

Really, I don't know what song it'll be. Just as long as she doesn't want some lame Jack Johnson number, I'm cool.

  8. Arcade Fire

    Beatles, The

    Clash, The

Dylan, Bob (toughest letter for me)

    Eels

    Fleetwood Mac

    Grateful Dead, The

Hives, The (don't have much H stuff)

    I'm From Barcelona (ditto)

    Jayhawks, The

    Kinks, The

    Led Zeppelin

    My Morning Jacket

    Neutral Milk Hotel

    Oasis

    Petty, Tom

    Queen

    Rolling Stones

    Spoon

    Television

    Uncle Tupelo

    Vampire Weekend (I guess)

    Wilco

Xiu Xiu (only X I have in my collection)

    Yo La Tengo

ZZ Top (read explanation for X)

  9. I bought there first ep its really good even though I wanted to hate it. There from my genral area and there young so I wanted to hate them.

There defiently better than Vampire Weekend and way more authentic.

Not sure how they're comparable to Vampire Weekend. In sound, they're a lot similar to The Strokes than anyone else that immediately comes to mind upon first listen.

I'm not unimpressed, but I'm not terribly enthused by what I'm hearing.

  10. My personal ranking of Spoon albums, not that anyone cares:

    1. A Series of Sneaks

    2. Girls Can Tell

    3. Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

    4. Kill the Moonlight

    5. Telephono

    6. Gimme Fiction

I care because it's right on with my rankings.

  11. are you referring to "Another Fine Day" or "Blood on the Slacks"? because this isn't true for either of them

Maybe I'm forgetting the liner notes for AFD. I thought Gary had a hand in songwriting on all but maybe 4 tracks on the record.

And, for the record, I wasn't comparing AFD and Vagabonds sound-wise, but reaction-wise for myself. They both are almost entirely forgettable IMO.

  12. If we're comparing to MMJ, Band Of Horses sound much closer than Fleet Foxes do, but it's that reverb effect plus they're vocal stylings. Sometimes the way they all seem to mumble and then enunciate certain syllables is very strange too. I think that all lends to the comparison.

  13. Just listened to this album.

Ouch, is all I can say. I am very, very unimpressed. Reminds me a lot of the way I felt about the most recent Golden Smog record (basically consisted of entirely Gary's stuff) and I haven't touched that one since the day I got it.

    Just disappointed.

  14. To some extent I enjoy Rhett's solo stuff although it's way too saccharine for me to make it through either of his entire albums. The Old 97's themselves have been on a steady decline album-wise although I'd still kill to see 'em live. Sadly, they seem to play only on weeknights when I CAN see them and that makes it difficult.
