  1. i think pattern girl is the only circus devils song i really love

but i have no clue what it's off of!

oh, and bull spears? is that circus devils?

    that slayed live

oh, and apparent the red angus is pretty cool too

    and before it walks

    ok, that's four ...

  2. the circus devils stuff just flat-out sucks

that's bob and todd mocking fans by putting out the shittiest stuff they can possibly come up with and watching all the hard-core apologists rave about how it's better than alien lanes, etc.

    it's just awful

  3. and the Dream Syndicate's Steve Wynn.

steve hasn't been in dream syndicate for 19 years, but we get the idea :)

i'm sure if you took the two or three best tracks from each of these five releases you'd get the equivalent of one really good record

  4. 3 pages and absolutely no love or mention of Dinosaur Jr?

    Really WTF people?

seriously, i never get why on this type of thread there's always somebody who complains about the bands people have named so far

maybe - just maybe - nobody on the first three pages mentioned Dinosaur Jr because nobody who has posted so far liked Dinosaur Jr as much as other 80s American college rock bands

    just a guess

    so that's WTF

for me, it was the dBs, Feelies and REM

  5. Wow, no "Don't Dream It's Over"? That's on the 1st record. That could be construed as self-indulgent. How many people's emotional attachment to that band begins with that song? Not playing it is satisfying themselves more than the audience.

yeah, no dream it's over or something so strong, no I got you (do they ever play any split enz stuff?)

    but nobody seemed to mind

free show, 75 minutes, everybody dug it

and i actually never heard one person bark out for one of the hits, so that was cool

  6. saw them on monday at the bowery ballroom and it was fantastic

the new record sounded really good

self indulgent set as usual, but enough "hits" to keep you interested

    25 songs, almost three hours

    Neil is always fantastic live

highlight was a funked up "chocolate cake" and a beautiful "fall at your feet"

i'm bummed they didn't do chocolate cake yesterday in philly!

or anything from the first record

but it's cool, i loved everything they did (except elephant, which i can live without)

hey, just curious what you mean by self-indulgent. i didn't get that vibe at all

  7. The brokers got to all of the Chicago tickets. I was at work but my fiancee was at home basically hitting refresh over and over again starting 5 minutes before the tix went on sale, and they went from "not yet on sale" to "sold out" pretty much instantaneously at 10:00. Really bitter about this.

    that really, really sucks

  8. ask me who's a better band, the Kinks or the Beatles, and I'd say the Kinks without a second though.

for me, the kinks' catalogue has held up far better than the Beatles' catalogue

i don't think i've put on a beatles record in 20 years but i listen to the kinks constantly

    more enduring for me

and schoolboys in disgrace is a really really underrated record. i've always loved it

  9. hey, anybody heard the new crowded house record?

i'm going to see them friday, looking forward to it ... i assume it will be mostly new stuff, which is cool, as long as we also get I Got You and Don't Dream it's Over!!

  10. since Philly is sandwiched in between the Boston and NYC dates, i can't see how they could add another date.

    i was looking at that

maybe before that leg of the tour starts?

they don't have any shows from oct. 24 - nov. 3 so maybe they just head east a day early and add a nov. 3 philly show? then go to NY for fallon, then up to boston nov. 5, then back to philly nov. 6 and NY nov. 7?

or maybe add a nov. 8 show the day after NY?

  11. Man, I got shut out of Philly. If anyone hears of two extras, please think of MattZ? I will be all over the NYC tix pre-sale on Wednesday.

Terminal5 is pretty huge, so hopefully my chances are better there. In fact, many of my friends are die-hards, and they are skipping the show because they are convinced there will be another announcement with a smaller venue, and they don't want to go to T5. Yikes.

that sucks ... maybe they'll add another philly show, since nov. 6 sold out so fast

the NY venue looks ... ominous, but it's apparently not that bad. have you been to T5?

  12. :unsure What new songs are you referring to? His recent albums are generally recognized as very solid albums. I can understand that you don't like them but "sad how bad" the new songs are?

Jerusalem is the only album I don't like much.

sorry, i didn't write down any song titles

but i think most of them were from Washington Square Serenade

and they weren't "generally recognized" by anybody in the venue as very solid, sorry

    and i love earle

  13. man, roosevelt stadium was a freaking dump

but i saw some unbelievably great shows there

the place was crumbling to the ground by the mid-1970s. was an ancient minor-league baseball stadium (where Jackie Robinson made his professional baseball debut in 1946)

was torn down in the early 1980s but i'll never forget the place

and i will listen to this fantastic show tonight

  14. i am stunned to see the love for the Band of Horses record.

I've always liked them, but I honestly think this might be the worst record by anybody I've ever heard.

But it's cool. Glad ya'all dig it. Just surprising to me.

I will echo the Dr. Dog, Broken Bells, Spoon, Frightened Rabbit and Josh Ritter & add Magnetic Fields and Matt Keating

don't think it's been a great year so far or else i ain't looking hard enough

  15. i agree with people are leaving ... 0 to 99 is by far bob's best since From a Compound Eye

it's baffling to me to read everybody on Disarm the Settlers rave about how great Moses on a Snail is ... then I listen to it and ... wait, it's got a couple OK songs on it, but even largely forgotten solo records like Fiction Man or Motel of Fools are a million times better than Moses on a Snail

is there some rule on Disarm the Settlers that you have to say everything is Bob's best record since Alien Lanes or they kick you out?
