Gin Blossoms' last record was really really good - Major Lodge Victory, from I think 2006 ... a real return to form
another one will be out this fall
great band with a surprisingly large catalogue that, sadly, they don't really explore during their fun but predictable live shows
all their solo stuff is ace, too
and really really nice guys
-
caught the She & Him Free at Noon gig at World Cafe in Philly today
my god, i didn't know live music could be this boring
excrutiatingly dull
zooey looked like she'd rather be anywhere but here

"Guided By Voices, the classic indie rock band from Dayton, Ohio formed by prolific songwriter and lead singer Robert Pollard in 1983, is reuniting its "classic '93 - '96 lineup" for Matador Records' 21st birthday party in Las Vegas, NV. According to Billboard sources, additional dates in other cities will be announced soon."
who needs billboard ... didn't i announce that yesterday?
this will be monumental
i will find my way to the first show, whatever it takes (and it won't be vegas)
-
the lineup is Bob, Tobin Sprout, Mitch Mitchell, Greg Demos and Kevin Fennell ... the classic lineup intact -- the group responsible for the greatest three-record run in pop music history --- Bee Thousand, Alien Lanes, Under the Bushes under the Stars
this won't be a one-off
nothing announced quite yet but there will be a tour
the club is open
-
i remember watching this and being really disappointed with levon's version of tennessee jed
too slick & the horns don't fit
one of my favorite hunter-garcia songs actually & i'll take the dead's version
that said, i've been a huge helm fan since i saw him at carnegie hall at one of the old WNEW christmas concerts (late 1970s?) with the RCO All-Stars
hoping to get up to one of his barn concerns next year

7) Genesis: Trespass
it's mindblowing, but it is their second record ... released in october 1970
in march 1969, genesis released From Genesis to Revelation with gabriel, banks, rutherford, anthony phillips and john silver
-
interesting question
agree with a few already mentioned
murmur
if i should fall from grace with god
alien lanes
animals
can't disagree with aja
pleased to meet me
close to the edge
still feel gone
teenage symphonies to god

I was blown away by the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Expected a bunch of commercial country but it's 99 percent authentic country music -- bluegrass, mountain music, americana, roots ...
extremely cool place
-
The Best of Jill Hives, Guided by Voices
great song
Kelly Richards, Gin Blossoms
also a great song
-
anybody in the Philly area or New Jersey ... Tommy will be playing a few full-band dates this fall along the East Coast, including Club Cafe in Pittsburgh on Sept. 16, opening for Superchunk at the 9:30 Club in Washington on Sept. 17 and Sept. 18 at the Record Collector - a record store with a performance space - in Bordentown, New Jersey.
in Pittsburgh & Bordentown, Tommy will be playing the legendary "Songs from the Film" in its entirety, which should be very cool
tommy does not play out very often, but he is just fantastic live
a few other dates:
Sept. 8 Milwaukee
Sept. 9 Chicago
September 22 L.A.
Sept. 24 San Francisco

just heard this for first time
wow is it awful
-
Thanks, I hadn't heard that one before. Great song! I wonder what the chances of Bob and Toby touring together again are.
i would say slim
bob has said he won't tour anymore & tobin hasn't played out since 2004, when he opened some shows for gbv
tobin is still putting out the occasional record but painting seems to be his main priority

Okay, so not Pollard, per se...
But, this is the best TOBIN SPROUT song of the GBV years. And, sadly, it never made it onto any of their albums, just an EP"
Listen and love...
